Is anybody else using Canasa Suppositories for their crohns in the rectum?  I'd be interested to know what side effects you are having.

Canasa never did a thing for my proctitis, cortifoam is the only rectal med I will use when my proctitis appears because I've had CD for so many yrs now I know the very start of a proctitis flare and I get myself on cortifoam asap to get a curb on it and it works like a charm for me for the most part and I've never suffered any side-effects from it cuz according to my current (and the 3 other GI's I've had) cortifoam steroid enema doesn't get released into your blood stream the way oral pred does so therefore little to no side-effects from it.

My bum is broken....there's a big crack down the middle of it! LOL :)

I could not tolerate the canasa, my bum was so irritated they usually didn't last long. Maybe 45 minutes to an hour before they triggered a BM.

i've never had a problem with them.

tried cortifoam years ago. much better than the rowasa enemas retention and application wise, but i felt it never worked for me. glad it seems to work for you. i've had better luck with suppositories.

I wouldn't really say they were working (Canesa suppositories).  I always feel like I have to have a BM now, it's like a constant pressure.  I get alot bloody mucous and most recently encountered blood in my stool.  I'm extremely gassy and it seems like I have BM's now at least 6-7 times a day.  I'm thinking maybe they weren't such a good idea.
Crohn's Disease.  Diagnosed 13+ years ago.  I've been in remission for short periods of time but each time I come out of remission my disease seems to have spread.  This last time has been the worst.  I'm now full of ulcers from my stomach all the way down to my anus.  I'm currently doing Humera 40mg injections every other week.  I'm also on Imuran and once a day Lotensin.  I'm in the process of weaning off my first round of Prednisone.  I recently joined a local crohns disease support group that meets monthly.  It has been great talking to and meeting other people who share the same disease.  I hope to continue gaining insight through this forum as well.
