Hi folks, haven't been talking any, just trying to read some of the posts.
I have stuff going on, I'm on Imuran right now, no pred. I go on and off the pred fairly regularly.
I have been to the ear doc alot lately,  couldn't seem to get rid of ear fluid and cloudiness. It went away, now I have severe pain from the inside (deep) in the ear up the side of my head. Sharp pains. Ear doc drew blood checking the CRP and the ESR levels. I know what the crp is, the gi doc checks that level often. The ear doc then said if both levels are high, he would want to biopsy the blood vessel in my temple.  He called it "temporal  something".
Could this be related to the crohns??  I just heard imflamation!
Also,  a couple weeks ago I got a weird swelling in the left arm pit and sorta've into the side of the breast (same side as the temporal pain is on). The swelling is almost gone, but is still visible if you look at both sides.  When it swelled, the pain was bad, under the arm and all down the arm.  Inflamation again???
One more thing,  sometimes the blood vessels across my chest, from the front of one arm to the front of the other arm, up into my neck, and down into the breasts, the blood vessels go really, really dark.  I mean, it really looks like someone has painted them with a navy blue marker. This started when the armpit swelled, now it comes and goes.
I hope this makes a little bit of sense to someone out there!!!   On one site someone kept suggesting being tested for lupus.  Has anyone ever heard of such symptoms as these???    How about the biopsy of the blood vessel?    thanks folks!!!

I think the doctor probably meant temporal arteritis, which is a type of vasculitis. Here is a Web site from Johns Hopkins that provides some information. I hope it helps!

Writer,  thanks so much for the info. interestsing!  The blindness part is really scary tho.   shocked

I forgot to mention the "extreme" fatigue I have. Is this too a side effect of the crohns ? I noticed it is an effect of the temporal stuff.  but, is the temporal arteritis connected to the crohns?   The treatment is the same for crohns as it is for temporal ateritis.   Yea!!  More prednisone,  just what I needed,  I look like a "fat chicken" now,  I am sort'av a skinny person, arms and legs and such, but I already have a fat belly, pred fat.  Sounds like I might have to just find some maternity clothes again!!! haha
Thanks again for the info, I'll keep you folks up to date as long as the puter and internet dial up stays working!!!     I am supposed to talk to doc and get blood test results tom (thurs).
     Thanks again!!!!!             Granna

Glad it helped. I don't know much about the condition, but my impression is, as long as you treated promptly, blindness is really unlikely. But steroids are no fun! As to the fatigue, I suppose it could be either illness, but I hope you feel better soon.

Hi...I a new to this site and I have been suffering from digestive hell since about 1999. I was medically retired with the a disease called Behcet's Disease....which sounds like what you may have. It is a form of vasculitis and all of those symptoms you are describing is close to the most important differences betweed Crohn's and Behcets. Uveitis and swelling of optical nerves, veins etc....is the fourth prong of the clinical diagnosis for Behcets. But because it is fairly rare GI' docs dont want to believe you have it,,,at first. It will take some convincing and many opinions and they still may call it Crohns...so try Behcet's..there are tests but they are not conclusive especially if you are not of Middle Eastern or ASIAN descent. Good Luck...I understand the frustration you are going through...I hope this helps.
