Hi all!

I had my resection on Thursday.  Went into surgery at about 8:00a.m. and it took about two hours.  They removed 8 inches of my small bowel and also took my appendix, which I'm told is pretty routine.  I'm doing pretty well.   They were able to do the surgery laproscopically, but my third incision is pretty large--maybe 3 inches??  Just got my NG tube and catheter out this morning (it's Sunday) and it's made a world of difference.  I had my first cup on broth and hot tea a few hours ago.  I've gone pee and poop, so all is well for now.  Walking feels good, so I've been doing a lot of that.  I just wanted to thank everyone for the advice along the way.  It has made this whole ordeal so much easier on me.  I have quite a bit of heart burn right now, but not a lot of pain.  I do still have my morphine pump bedside and can hit it every 8 minutes as needed.  I haven't needed it too much, but it's nice to have. I'm hoping to go home on Tuesday if all is well.  Will definitely keep you updated on my progress.

Angela,
I am so glad that you are doing well. It sounds to me like you are right on track and an ideal patient. I know the relief you must feel. I am wishing you the best of luck and hope you get out of the hospital on Tuesday. Keep us updated.

If you have already had a bowel movement you are doing well. I don't think 3 inches is very long? I did not have an NG tube so don't know what that feels like. Hope you continue to do well and keep us informed.

Congrats! I hope your recovery goes well. Your pooping after 3 days? i don't think I pooped until day 5. I had a 4" incision to remove a pretty big piece of gut. Keep doing what your doing and you'll be on your feet in no time.

The pooping was almost instant after I had some chicken broth and a popcicle. I've gone 3 times since them taking the tube out almost 10 hours ago. It's "D", but hey, I'll take what I can get. Yeah, I wasn't sure if a 3 inch incision was large or not, but it looks pretty good.

The explosive D will be around until your body adjusts to the changes. Sometimes it takes a bit to settle down. Start eating slowly so your body has time to adjust.
