The past couple days my stomach has been HORRIBLE, cramping pains after eating, and very bad D. Usually my Lomotil pills and Questran keep it under control, but its not doing the job right now. I decided to prednisone for a week or 2 and see if it helps me at all. Usually I would just stick it through but my long distance boyfriend is coming into town to visit me for a week on Friday, and the last thing I need is to be sick the whole time hes here.  Ive never really done a prednisone burst but my GI gave me instructions on how to do it if need be. But just wondering, if I start taking 60mg today (I already took it) how long should it take before I start to feel better. I figured 5 days is a good time to give it a head start.  Ive heard people say they felt better even the same day they started it, but on average, do you think 5 days is enough time to get some relief?

Well I know that when I would have a blockage and go to the hospital and they would give me IV Prednisone, I was better in 24 hours. I know that IV meds work faster than pills, I'm just not sure when the pill Pred will kick in. 2-3 days?

I have done Pred bursts before. I usually start at 25 mg for 2 days, 20 mg for 2 days, 15 mg for 2 days, 10 mg for 2 days, and 5 mg for two days. I never take more than 30 mg at a time or else I get bad side effects. Basically the way I do it you are on for approx 10 days. Hope that helps.

Prednisone always works in about 2 days for me. I bet 5 days is more than enough for anyone.

When I have taken more then 30 mgs a day then I can count on it working like this.
Miserable/pain/exhauseted-
swallow the pills-
crawl into bed with the lights off and the shades drawn-
wake up 4 hours later-
take a hot shower-
feel 80% better.

It then takes a few days for the energy to be real rather then an illusion.

Feel better and enjoy your visit.

I agree with most others that you should feel relief in 2 to 3 days, or even sooner. Just don't taper too fast!!

I think prednisone usually seems to be the first course of treatment, but not necessarily. I have heard of docs going right for biologics like Remicade first.
