I've had crohn's since my mid to late 30's. Today my 20 year old daughter just told me she's been having upper abdominal pain for about a month. So of course I questioned her on other symptoms. She's got looser stools.

The big problem is that she has no insurance. My job is only part-time and my hubby is on partial unemployment and his boss isn't paying him. Long story, but somehow we do have some really bad insurance for the two of us, just none for the kids.

She does smoke, but says she's not addicted so I told her she'd better quit. (Like I haven't already warned her for other health reasons). I also told her to avoid fiber and dairy and fatty foods. I told her she doesn't want to qet this diagnosed without insurance first. Oh, she also takes a lot of ibuprofen because of chronic headaches that the docs haven't been able to help her with. I took a lot of ibuprofen before I got diagnosed myself.

I've always worried my kids would get it too. I know it's too soon to tell. But what else would you all recommend since she has no insurance?

What about one of those labs that you can walk in to and get a basic blood work up done. You can at least see if anything is seriously out of whack and they aren't too expensive, it depends on how many tests you want run. I just saw the first one of these in my area a month ago, but they seem to be available in more and more places.

Managing with strict low residue diet, keeping symptoms to a minimum. All test show small amount of ulceration, still have occasional blockages. But still have a great time with my 2 daughters and husband!

Prednisone, 6MP,Prevacid, B12 shots, Bentyl, Xifaxan.....

I will suggest that to her. She's kind of anti-dr after having chronic headaches and too many appointments/tests through the years. I think it will have to get worse before she will do anything.

Maybe have her read some of the forums as to how bad it can get. What would she do if her colon ruptured and had to have emergency surgery. I think I would go to a walk in clinic and see whats going on.
