I've been having a flare up. My new docs seem to be very conservative about prednisone, and she doesn't want to do anything without putting me through another colonoscopy. Last one was when I got dxd in 2003. So she prescribed colestid/colestipol saying my diarrhea may be due to not having a gallbladder (which I haven't had for many years) and that this med binds things and might help. Anyone on this and does it help? I guess it's for cholesterol but I don't really have problems with that so it seems silly to be on it.

It is an off label use. There are many on here who use this for bile salt D. I have both the pills and the powder. They work, but for me, they cause gas, cramping and bloating. I only take it if I will be somewhere that bathroom access is lacking. You can adjust the dosage so that you are only taking as much as necessary to stop the D with out causing side effects. Some people don't have the side effects at all, I wish I was one of them. But if it works for you and your D is Bile salt D, then it can really make a huge difference.

Managing with strict low residue diet, keeping symptoms to a minimum. All test show small amount of ulceration, still have occasional blockages. But still have a great time with my 2 daughters and husband!

I don't know why all of a sudden I would start having bile salt D after all these years but I'll give it a try. So far, it's not helping. Does it take awhile?

If its Bile Salt D it should help in the first few doses, unless the dose isn't high enough. But there should be some change. So maybe a call to the doctor....
