Thanks ya'll. I just cannot believe I did not figure out, because I have broken the same thigh before when I was in the service and once since (this disease and bones are not good). Evidently they are "minor" stress fractures, and they have been there for a couple weeks because they are healing up, but I am seeing the ortho today and am possibly having a small scope done. They want me off of the MTX until they can get a biosy.

I'm sure you know about the cal/mag and vitamin D idea for helping bones. It unfortunately does not have good results as far as reversing bone loss. One thing that you may not know about bone loss is the role that vitamin K plays in forming bone. The problem of bone loss in Crohn's may not all be due to pred - the loss of vitamin K from gut bacteria (the largest source of vitamin K for many people) could also be part of the problem. Ask your doctor about vitamin K levels and the possibility of trying a supplement (it's not generally in multivitamins).

Is it because the steroids have weakened your bones to the point that you can get little fractures just doing your normal activities?

They *may* be able to treat this, Navy. I remember they did a whole set of scans on me a few years ago looking for stress fractures and actually hoping they'd find them, because it would qualify me for some new meds (don't know what they were, though), so maybe there will be a medical solution for your problem.

It's good that they seem to be healing by themselves... but still, I'm sorry Navy. Why do they want you off the mtx? I don't understand.

They think it is a combination of years of pred, mtx (can cause bone marrow problems), the disease, and not exactly being gentle with my body. The fractures are minor, and not in "bad" areas. They are discussing doing a bone marrow biosy (YIKES!). I do not want to do that, but if it will help then I will.
