Hi all,
I'm sure this question has been asked many times before but......
Lately, off and on for the last 2 months when I pooh I fill the toliet with bright red blood. I don't feel like I have a hemmie, no pain at all, but maybe it's internal. It will happen for a couple days and then stop for no apparent reason. It hapens when I have formed stool and when I have D. I would great appreciate your advice.

Elizabeth, is it just in the bowl or is it threaded thru your stool? If its red blood in the water, I would assume internal hemmoroids, but if its threaded thru the stool, I would be a little more concerned. Have you talked to your doctor about this? I think you should at least bring it to his/her attention.

Gail,
Thanks for the reply. If it is internal hemroids is there anything I can do to avoid a doctor's visit? Maybe something over the counter to heal it. All I can think about is when my mom had internal hemroid surgery she said it was worse than when she had her breast cancer surgery. And of course it is a holiday weekend and we are leaving for vacation.

Only thing I can think of is either something you can insert like Prep H or maybe even some rectal meds, but you would need to have your doc call in a prescription. I wouldn't have surgery on anything like internal hemi's myself. I still would bring it to your doctors attention though. Good luck and enjoy your vacation!

My mom let her hermoids get out of control and ended up getting gangrene. She was really sick, but that's my mom, she is a nurse and is a very bad patient. When we were young you had to be practically unconscious before you went to the doctor. LOL We tease her about it now. Her doctor wrote an order for her to get blood work done in January and I finally got her to go about a month ago when I went for mine. Now I am fighing her to make the follow up appointment. I love her dearly!! Of course when I comes to me she wants me to call the doctor for every little thing. When I had complications after my resection surgery she never left my side and was a great advocate. She can be one tough cookie when you mess with her kids.

You may have internal hemmies that could cause bleeding or your CD may be affecting your colon/rectom in which case would be the culprit of the bleeding with no hemmies involved, you should have your doc check things out cuz if your CD is affecting your colon/rectom (and bleeding is usually an indication of that) then you'll need meds to target those/that area(s).

I don't have any hemmies, but I bleed most of the time. I have so much rectal disease that I just bleed. I've finally gotten used to seeing it and only worry if I bleed without stool.

EDIT:  However, if bleeding is new to you, it's a good idea to mention it to your doctor!

sr5599 - When you bleed is the blood bright red? I also think I am might be starting to flare because I am having a lot of right side pain. Thanks for the reply this is all new to me. I used to bleed when first got dx but it was intwined in formed stool and there was a lot of mucus. But that was 20 years ago.

I've had all variety of bloody stool and diarrhea: black (bleeding in the upper colon or lower small intestine), dark red (bleeding roughly in the mid-colon), bright red (bleeding in lower colon or rectum), pink (?). My GE's fully aware of it and says it's due to Crohn's inflammation/ulcers.

I was told that if it is bright red blood then it is in the end of colon and if it is black tarry stools theen it is further up in the intestines and you should seek medical help.
