I saw in another post that you said that Zyrtec made you hungry? Is that one of the common side effects? I started taking it instead of claritin a few months ago and I have put on 5 pounds. I wouldn't say that I am hungry, but I used to never want to eat, and now I can eat, if that makes sense. So now I'm wondering if I will try going back to the claritin for a bit to see if the pounds will come off. I just am snacking a bit more and more clothes are a bit tighter. I know 5 pounds doesn't sound like much, but I'm only 5' so its enough to make my pants feel a bit tight and I don't like it! I just never thought about it maybe being the zyrtec.

Managing with strict low residue diet, keeping symptoms to a minimum. All test show small amount of ulceration, still have occasional blockages. But still have a great time with my 2 daughters and husband!

I don't think it's a common side effect, but it happens. I asked my allergist about it, and he said that a drug rep for a competing drug had asked him about Zyrtec and increased appetite. He said that was the first he heard of it (with me being the second).

I did a search for Zyrtec and hunger, and did find a few people complaining about it. One person said they always gained weight in the spring, and had to spend the rest of the summer trying to lose it. They finally figured out that the only thing they did different in spring was taking Zyrtec.

Personally, I'm kind of a fan of the hunger side effect. I've gained a few much needed pounds, and now weight about 98 :-). I told my allergist that Zyrtec was like prednisone-lite: it's gives me an appetite, but it's not as ravenous as prednisone.

One last thing...I quit taking Zyrtec for one week, and the appetite went away pretty fast. I just started it again tonight to see if it comes back.
