Hi,  I've been treated for UC for 4 years...now two weeks ago I'm told I have Crohn's.  I was told all of my small intestines were inflamed.  I was in the hospital for eight days  on Flagyl, Cipro and Prednisone.  Now home I'm still on Prednisone, Entocort, Imuran and yesterday started on Pantasa.  I'm still not better. I have no appetite, always tired, losing weight which I can't afford, stomach achy.   Two days ago I had that test where you swollow a little camera and it takes pictures of your intestines.  I've had so many scans and tests and taking so much medicine.   I don't understnad why I'm not getting better.  Anyone else take this long to start feeling better.  Thanks for being out there.
Meds:  Prednisone 30mg-tapering 5 mg weekly

Imuran 50mg
Lialda 1.25 mg (2) 2x day

Awww, Im sorry. I feel for you. Were you given a diet to follow?  Try clear liquids for a couple days and see if that helps.  Sometimes medications can take a couple months to kick in.  I know how you feel about losing weight, Im 60lbs overweight , even though I have constant D.  Try eating small frequent meals 4-6 a day.  Try to stay away from raw fruits and veggies, they are hard to digest.  Smoothies, broths, jucies.  Drink a lot of water to stay hydrated especially if you going a lot.

There is a diet alternative called "the Specific Carbohydrate Diet" or SCD. It is successful for several members here in reducing their symptoms and even providing remission. You would do this at the same time as you take your meds. It is a bit strict - so strict that it is hard for many to follow the diet, especially initially when food options are very limited. If you are interested, there is more information at: scdiet.org and PecanBread.com

It takes a while for the meds to kick in, give it some time and if you are still having problems go back to your GI and explain the symptons and maybe they can switch somes meds around and try different ones. I surprised that you have no appetite. The Prednisone makes me eat like a horse. I would try smaller meals and eat more frequently, even try some supplements like Boost or Ensure.
I hope you feel better soon!

Ah sweetie, I am so sorry you are still suffering so much from this, yes I have been dx for 4 years and still am in pretty much in a chronic flare. You might have to do some med jumping, and that really sucks because it takes so long for crohns meds to reach an effective dose in your body (like a couple of months).  I would also say that diet does not work for everyone, and it is something that slowly reintroduce foods and keep track of what hurts and what doesn't.

You've all been so helpful.  It's nice to know that you're not alone with this.  I've been introducing things into my diet and I pretty well know a few hours later if it's going to bother me.  Pantasa wasj ust started a few days ago so I'm hoping that's going to have some effect. Doc said he might want me to go to Mayo Clinic if I don't start responding to the meds.  Keeping my fingers crossed.  Meanwhile I'm going to read about the different diets out there.  Thank you for giving me your time.  I really appreciate you being there.  Have a great day.  Arlene
