Not sure about the ankles hurting...I would call the doc if that keeps up. I tolerated pred pretty well when I was on it. I took 40mgs and then a taper down to none over a period of 4 months. A big thing with pred is water retention so try to eat foods that will help you expel excess water and make sure to drink LOTS of water. Some good foods (if you can tolerate them) are bananas, watermelons, cantaloupe, cucumbers (take the seeds out). Watch your sodium and carb intake as well. After 4 months on pred I only had a very slight rounding of the face and a few weeks after I stopped I had some hair loss (but it was not something anyone noticed but me). A lot of people get the munchies while on pred so watch out for that and if you do get them try eating some of the foods suggested above.

*I also drank parsley tea everynight...I tolerated this well but not sure if it is the best thing for everyone. It is an herbal remedy and I would check with your doctor first to see if he/she is ok with you drinking it.

Hope you feel better soon!

I haven't really had any problems with prednisone except somedays with this current flare on 40mg/day I felt pretty dazed, which I think was the pred.

Energized is right! I felt like Superman on that stuff. If you're only on it for 10 days, I wouldn't be worried. Most of the problems associated with it are related to extended use. But if you have to be on it for longer, watch the weight gain! Eat filling foods to stay fuller longer and exercise often.

oddly i have no appetite at all im actually finding it hard to eat... but thats to do with a 9 year eating disorder my body lost its ability to feel 'hungry' and now my knees hurt SO much i can literally barely walk.

i think its also worth mentioning i have osteopenia (a milder form of osteoporosis) and some form of arthritis, and im a 19 yo guy; im like a 90 yo woman

I just become a human garbage disposal and I have so much energy. The only time my joints start to hurt is when I start to wean off to fast so I slow down the process and I'm fine.

You just started the Pred, so I don't think all your symptoms are entirely related to the Pred, some are more than likely related to your flare. Many folks do suffer with the insomnia on Pred. You might talk to your doctor about something to help you sleep. You should be taking your Pred as early in the day as possible to help fight off the side effect of insomnia. Within a few days I suspect you will start feeling a little more energetic and then the hunger will start. At least for me I can't stop eating while on Pred. Try also to avoid any additional salt. But do ask your doc for something to help you sleep.

Good luck,

I too have been on pred, but for long periods. I found the side effects usually kicked in after a few weeks. I suffered moon face, extra hair growth, sleeplessness, nightmares and hot sweats. But most took months to appear. Oh and the munchies. I agree with Nanners that you should take your tablet as early in the morning as you can.  However if you are only on the pred for ten days I would think it would be unlikely that you will suffer any major side effects. And please dont be worried by my side effects I am one of those unfortuntate people that had every side effect, lots of people dont have that many.

Diagnosed 2005.

I've been on pred since January with no side effects.  I just can't taper off without my arthritis flaring too much.  On 4 mg right now (trying to taper off from 5) but I can already tell a huge difference on 1 mg less, so I think I'll stay at 4 mg for a while.  I know so many people on here say pred is evil, but it's been the only thing keeping me together...I love it right now...we'll see what I say if I end up with bad side effects down the road.  =)

Crohn's Disease, Acid Reflux/Gastritis, Hashimoto's Thyroiditis, Endometriosis, Arthritis, Depression/Anxiety.  Too many meds to list them all.  =)

Well, I'm supper sensitive to drugs too....kinda needed to know all the details about pred before I started taking....I was on 40 mg a day for 10months with a LONG tapper. My tapper was sometimes .2 mg a day ..really sensitive to "The Tapper" ...and finally at the end had one really bad month of JOINT PAIN!!! very RA feeling but, it did finally subside.

With my first dose I felt flush in the cheeks like a sunburn, this is normal. I had tons of energy and I loved that after feeling like crap for months! I was hungry, but because my body finally kept up with my MIND it seemed like I was too busy to think about it. I didn't gain any weight on Pred. I actually bowed to my Dr. for giving it to me during Christmas so I could get things done.:) Yes, got a little moon faced...almost more like Charlie Brown looking, It's just part of the package I guess.

As far as sleep. Keep a very strict consistancy on sleep pattern. Go to bed at the same time and try to get up at the same time every day. This helps with your natural bio-rhythm. Ex: I always took a bath at 9:00 and had a cup of sleepytime tee around 9:30 and then bed lights out at 10:00..tired or not...do it. I really didn't want to take sleeping pills cuz I take so much already.

Good Luck!

mmm the joint pain seems to show up 6 hours after i take the pred, i only took half the dosage today, i started with a quarter but it wasnt enough, 25 mg seemed to take away any pain i was having, but without the GOGOGO so i think i should be able to sleep ok tonight. still no appetite though... last time i was having trouble sleeping they gave me anti-schizophrenia drugs called seraquel and i ended up going into respiratory arrest and a mild coma for a while haha soooo i like to stray from anything that makes you sleepy.

and I just took my last Prednisone today. Horray!! I've had nothing but anxiety the whole time I've been on them (since April) because of everything I had read about the side effects. I think I did okay, we'll see if anything shows up post-pred.
