Anyone on 6MP? Going to start today. How's it working for you?
Diagnosed with Crohn's in the ileum, 2005. Treated with Pentasa and Prednisone. Had surgery June, 2009 to remove intestine and fistula. Will be starting 6MP.

I am not on it anymore, but my one tip for you is to take it at bedtime. I avoided any side effects by doing it that way. Hoping this med brings you to a long long remission. Many have been on this medication for years with success. Also, be aware that it takes about 3 months to get to a theraputic level. Good luck!

I have been on 6MP for about a year. My Gi added it about 2 months after I started taking Pentasa. Unfortunately, I was starting a flare at that point and it was progressing quickly. I don't really recall any side effects from the medication. I take 100 mg every morning. After my two resections in Oct/Nov last year and in combination with Remicade, my Crohn's has gone into remission. I continue to take the meds for maintenance now.

I've been on 50mg daily for five years now, with almost no side effects and with a remarkable reduction in edema and inflammation in my terminal ileum. When my new GI doctor took me off Pentasa (which had obviously not done me any good), my ileum was 50% blocked, and we didn't know whether it was scar tissue (too late!) or inflammation (still something you can do about it). The 6MP has been a lifesaver for me. Admittedly, I'm on a pretty low dosage. But I take it first thing every morning, and it's kept me from another bout of abdominal surgery. Of course, it hasn't helped my symptoms at all. I still have diarrhea, joint pain, the works. But, as far as I know, my intestines have been relatively clear for the past five years, and I haven't had another perianal abscess or fistula.

Good luck! I hope the drug works for you.

Just be sure you get your blood work done routinely - don't forget. Complications can sneak up on you with these drugs!!

Ever since I've been on it I've been experiencing a LOT of hair loss. Anyone else deal with this? It's to the point where I pull out clumps at a time - I've got a lot of hair to start with so it's not like I'm bald or anything, but I don't like it nonetheless.

**Asacol (4800 mg daily), 6-MP (100 mg daily), Prednisone (8 mg daily...for a few more weeks), Flagyl (250 mg every other day), Nexium (40 mg daily)
**Thankfully only two major flare-ups...2001 and 2009. Hoping to have another 8 years in between the next one (sadly, I do know there will be a next one).
**GOAL of one day being immunosuppressant free...still working on my doctor on this one but I am a world traveler who desperately wants to go to Africa one day!

I was on it for 2 years before starting remicade, the doc took me off of it while on remicade, since have stop remicade and started back on Imuran. I have never had hair loss. I never really had any side effect to this med.
Still waiting for imuran to work for me... but it's only been a week since back on them.
Good luck!
