Hi Elizabeth!  Thank you for asking.  Yes, they drained the abscess on Friday without surgery.  I'm still in the hospital, but I'm waiting to be discharged this afternoon.  The procedure was done in CT scan.   I'm still waiting for the complete lab report to come back, but I'm on a broad spectrum IV antibiotic and will go home today with 10 days of Augmentin and pain management.  I'm ready to get the heck out of here.  My concern is I've still got a lot of pain at the site and I'm scared it's re-developing.  My WBC is down some, so I do think the antibiotics are working.  I'm suppose to see my surgeon early next week and most likely will be re-scanned to assess the area.  I HOPE and PRAY this is the end of this incident.

Thanks so much for the well-wishes and prayers.  I will keep you updated as I progresss.

I am glad to hear they could do the procedure without another surgery. The fact that your WBC is down seems to be a good sign. I hope you were able to get dishcarged today and the antibiotics do their job. I will say some prayers that this is the end of your unwanted abcess. Keep us updated.

I made it home!!!  Woo Hoo.  They sent me home with Flagyl and Levaquin for 10 days and then some Vicodin for the pain management.  One Dr. said Augumentin, but then the surgeon on call came in and changed it to the other two.  I'll see my Dr. this early this week for follow up.

Thanks again.  Now, I just have to get off the prednisone...

Just take it one day at a time and make sure you take care of yourself and not over do it. I'm glad they put you on the more powerful antibiotics. I have had good luck with Leviquin.

I am kind of glad to hear they changed your anti-biotic. I took Augmentin awhile back for a bad sinus infection and only made it thru 8 days of it because it triggered really bad diarrhea for me. I think the other anti-b's will be much better for you. Be sure to take a good probiotic at least 2 hours after your anti biotics. This will help to keep the gut flora in check.

Good luck,
