Hello all,

In the tradition of the well-received new meds thread, here are some of our very best links on diet and nutritional therapy for Crohn's.

We had so many formatting problems in the "new meds" thread that I'm going to try to put each type of diet / nutritional therapy in a new post, in the hope that this will make linking and reading easier.

I would appreciate it if we could keep this thread for information and nothing else - this will make it easier for people to find the topics they need - so if you would like to make comments or suggestions, could you please make them in a new thread, or email me?

I'd particularly like to know if there are any therapies I've forgotten, or any great links you'd like to be included. I will include these at my discretion, probably in consultation with the other mods if I'm not sure about them myself. Again, if you'd like to make a suggestion of this type, please do it in a new thread with an eye-catching title so I'll see it :-).

Hope you all find this helpful,

Ivy.

First of all, as a disclaimer, here is a thread on the dangers of unmedicated Crohn's and its effects.

While diet therapy can be incredibly helpful, it is NOT a replacement for other therapies, and I think should be best done in consultation with your doctors and other medical professionals. Please ensure that doctors continue to monitor the progress of your disease, so that your Crohn's does not grumble along in a mild form, neglected, and leave you with a stricture or worse.

SPECIFIC CARBOHYDRATE DIET - a.k.a. SCD

This is Crazy Harry's excellent thread comparing the SCD and Makers Diet. It is a great guide for beginners.

While we're on the subject of diets, here is an outside link on how to keep a food diary:

This can be very helpful as you are trying to work out what foods help you, and what foods can be a trigger for symptoms.
