Hi!!  For about 2 months now I haven't taken any medication for my Crohn's and my stools have been firmer and less frequent.  I do have a colostomy, a large parastomal hernia and scarring in my small intestine at the bellybutton(caused by an error from my last surgeon).  When I was on Remicade, my stools would slow down for about a week and then it was full blown D--stopped Remicade because it never worked to its full strength.  I am in the process of changing Gastro and Surgeon so I am asking everyone out there if they have had similar results after getting off all medications.  I am wondering if things are slowing because of the hernia??  I can feel the stools pass by the area of the small intestine (pain) and when It comes out of the colostomy, I feel like I want to throw up!!  I am soo used to having D all the time -- that this firming stool is making me uncomfortable.  Always feel like I need to go!!  Anyone have any advice/suggestions.  One more question??  Has anyone taken probiotics and gotten really bad heartburn?  Thanks!!

Sounds like you might have some narrowing going on in there.  Its possible that the hernia could be twisting your bowels and causing problems.  Can you get in and at least see your family doc, I don't think this is something to let go.  Better safe than sorry.

As for the probiotics, I was using one for probably two years no problem, and then the company changed its formulation, and it then started giving me bad heartburn skull    I had to stop it and start taking more of the other probiotic I took at bedtime.  So you aren't alone with the probiotics causing heartburn.  Hope you get figured out whats going on with you.

I am seeing the new Gastro on Wednesday and the Surgeon on Thursday--as for twisting of the bowel-my first hernia I had about 2 years ago was all twisted in the bowel but I could not feel that one. This one I can feel it and looking at my abdomen you can see the difference in size from one side to the other. My last hernia caused me to have no bowels for 2 days and on the 3rd day my stools where EXPLOSIVE!! Went on like this for months until Gastro decided to do a catscan which showed the hernia with my bowels all twisted up in it.
