I have been bouncing around from probiotic to probiotic trying to find the right brand. Currently I am on VSL#3 and from all the reviews I think this may be the one but we will just have to wait and see.

Anyways may be because of the above but I have had the worst gas lately. Its just not that - it smells really bad. Sorry TMI but this is life.

Any advice on how to calm the gas down? I've tried fennel tea (hate the smell-makes me gag), homeopathic pills, I take enzymes before each meal and of course OTC Gas relief meds...nothing seems to work. What is causing it to be so stinky? skull

There's two parts to it. First these are new bacteria that are upsetting the existing balance of your gut ecology which results in a struggle for food. The bacteria will be inefficient in using the food that they get because the balance has not been established with the new and old bacteria. The inefficiency results in a lot of partly decomposed food passing through. The second is the food that you are eating. If you have not changed diet recently, it may be that your old diet provided food for bacteria that are being displaced by your probiotics. With time, the new order will sort itself out and there will be less wasted resources and thus less gas and smell. Really the only thing that will work is time.
