I have been on prednisone since the beginning of March due to bleeding, pain etc. I started on 30mg but after 3 weeks it was doing nothing and I ended up in hospital for 3 days on an IV. The big doses of sudomedrol stopped the bleeding after a few days and I have been slowly tapering the prednisone since then.

I am now on 5mg but in the last couple of days I have had some bleeding again. Should I expect this? The last time I had problems was in 2005 when I was diagnosed, and I thought that I was symptom free when the prednisone was finished. Is it usual to have a return of symptoms when going off the prednisone? My cortisol levels were tested last week and they are really low.

I told my GI that I was having a little bleeding and he didn't seem worried. What have other people experienced?

Some people can't quit prednisone without a recurrence of symptoms. However, it may just be due to your low cortisol levels - pred shuts down the body's production of cortisol and it takes a while for it to start up again as pred is withdrawn. Your symptoms may vanish once your cortisol levels even out.
