I am going to start probiotics but have no idea which to get. I thought I would start by asking on here what everybody is happy with. Thank You, Kay

VSL#3 is supposed to be the stuff. If I recall, it has 7 different types of bacteria. It's not exactly cheap, but I often get a bunch of free samples from my GE. There seem to be a lot of other various probiotics out there, ranging from 1 to 3 strains.

Primadophilus Reuteri made by natures way, guaranteed intestinal release, only one cap/day is needed, aids with high cholesterol, lactose intolerance and for women vaginal health (still fine for men to take though), affordable too, only downside is they must be kept in the fridge (still worth it).

I had been using Phillips' brand of "Colon Health" and found I had the best results (less gas, formed stools) if I took 2 capsules, 1 every 12hrs.
My Mother recently talked me into trying Align...and I am not responding well to it at all. After I take it, I have a minimum of about 4hrs of bathroom visits numbering between 3-6 times. I'm switching back to the "Colon Health" every 12hrs and putting the align away.

My Drs were not very helpful with assisting me in locating probiotics and I felt GNC was too expensive. Husband saw the Align at WalMart for about $30, but I didn't want to spend "that much" and chose the Phillip's brand at $13 instead. Taking 2 capsules a day put the cost up to $26, close to that $30 Align...but I just don't feel the Align is giving me as good results. I've given it 3 weeks and I'm tired (literally) of the 4hrs of lost sleep every night.

The trick is to try things until you find what works for you.

Crohn's and UC are pretty darn crappy, but if you can't laugh at yourself, you'll cry......I'd much rather laugh.
2001 Dx'd with UC.  (asacol, hi-doses pred, colazol, 6MP=jaundice, remicade)  No remission.
5/2008 surgery, removal of 6" of left side colon.  Dx changed to Crohn's.
Changed maintenance med to Methotrexate (MTX) and am remaining manageable with 2tabs Immodium and a probiotic capsule every 12hrs.

I always plug Culturelle. It is a very well documented bacteria (single species) with proven benefits for GI illnesses. It costs about the same as Align, but you can get it online for less.

There are many options for probiotics. You can try a few things and find what works for you.

Every night I take VSL#3 (two pills) and Primadophilus reuteri (one pill).

I buy VSL#3 online and buy P. reuteri from a local health food store. For the two I probably spend between $50-$60 a month. The VSL#3 is most of the cost.

Currently trying... Enteral Nutrition, Flax Oil, VSL#3, Primadophilus Reuteri, Folic Acid, Vitamin E

You do need to try a few to find the one that works for you. And after a while you may need to switch things up and change brands for a few months because your body may become used to the strains in whatever brand you choose so it will not work as well. I was using Align and had good results, but after about 6 months it wasn't working as well. My doctor then recommended that I try PB8 brand which I have been taking for a month or so now. Not sure its doing much, so I may try something else soon.
