So this question is probably TMI. I am finally having bowel movements from surgery on Monday. However, they are black! Is this normal for after surgery? The surgeon didn't mention it and I was thinking of calling them in the morning. But thought I would ask the Crohns Specialist (you guys!) first!

Thank you!

DX in 2007. Was on Asacol for almost 2 years and the Entocort for 6 months. That has now stopped working so currently on Prednisone while trying to get up the courage to take Remicade.

Hi Amy,

My first bowel movements after surgery looked like coffee grounds-really dark almost black. Sounds pretty normal to me if it's your first few bowel movements.

Its been awhile since my last resection and to tell you the truth I don't remember. Could just be because of meds you were given or taken, but to be on the safe side ask the doc if this is okay. Good luck!
