I have noticed black in my stool. Sometimes it's black in all of it, when it's only a little that I go, or it's like it's marbled in with the normal brown color other times. I did take some pepto a couple weeks ago. At first, I thought it might be that, but that was so long ago...

Do you worry about upper GI bleeding if it's marbled, or does it have to be solid black?

I was under the impression that it could mean upper bleeding. You could always get tested and see? Do you feel and different physically?

I'm thinking you should be safe and get tested.  Certainly one of the easier tests for a Crohnie!  Not to difficult to provide a sample.   tongue

It can be marbled with upper GI bleeding depending on the amount of blood, they'll need to do a faecal occult stool test to detemine that, I'm also pretty sure I read that some of the meds can turn your poo darker colours. You definately need to tell your doctor, I would delay to much if it's something their not aware of and it's obviously a new thing for you.
Good Luck x

When my wife worked at a GI office, they were told that if it is "Red" it is a bleed in the lower colon. If there are dark, black tarry stools it is a upper GI bleed and you should seek medical attention.
Good Luck!

I have had ulcers in the past. I was put on the prilosec & was on carafate for a while too, since December. I haven't had the problems lately that I had then though, the vomiting & bad upper left pain. A little pain, but not like before.

You need to speak to the doctor hun, if you've had upper GI issues before and it sounds like you have old blood (upper Gi) in your poo, the meds may be controlling the acid and therefore lessening the pain. Any form of blood in your poo that has not been investigated needs to be looked at.
