I am new to this forum and have been reading alot about Humira.  I have had Crohns for over 30 years, had 3 resections and been on numerous meds.  I choose not to stay on drugs for long just b/c nothing seems to help that much.  I usually just take Prednisone for bad flareups which usually helps.  I currently have an anal fistula, don't know much about this, my doctor is wanting me to go on Humira which I am very reluctant to do b/c of side effects.  I tried Remicade a few years ago and had bad reactions to it and Dr. won't let me take it anymore.   I am just not sure I can do the Humira b/c of fear.  I'm confused as to whether Humira actually heals the fistula and if the problems return if you stop the Humira.  Also, I am probably the only Crohns patient I know of that is overweight but I am (maybe due to Pred, maybe not??)  Anyway, I have read some entries that say they gain weight on Humira-- haven't been told of that side effect from Dr. so just wondering about it.  I know we are all different and Crohns and meds affect us all differently, but just concerned about even trying Humira.  Thanks for your help!

Hi and Welcome to HealingWell. I am on Humira it has helped keep my Crohn's in remission. Yes the
prednisone will make you gain weight. I won't let my doctor put me back on pred because of the weight gain from the drug.

I have been on Humira now for 2 years and haven't gained any weight.  I haven't had any other bad side effects from it either other than the pain at time of injection (using the pen).  It definately hasn't kept me in remission though.  I have to take it with my other drugs and did have a course of Prednisone several months back.

I have been on Humira for a year and prednisone for 6 months and have not gained weight.  I'm also on Depo Provera (for endometriosis) and was told by the dr. that I'm the first person she's seen that didn't gain 40 lbs on Depo.  I work out a lot, when I can, so I guess that's the key for me.

Crohn's Disease, Acid Reflux/Gastritis, Hashimoto's Thyroiditis, Endometriosis, Arthritis, Depression/Anxiety.  Too many meds to list them all.  =)
