Hi all

I'm waiting to start treatment for flare - probably looking at Remicade but doing blood tests and barium follow through first. So......given I've just been in hospital with blockage (partial - got there in time) and IBD nurse says could happen again despite careful diet until I get medications going I've been wondering about effect of stress.

My job is really bad at the moment and no sign of relief in the near future - my manager wants me to be off sick or look at redeployment on health grounds (if there are any jobs to transfer to) as she cannot help in reducing the uncertainty/stressful environment me & my colleagues are working in and doesn't want me to get any more ill. Today I had a difficult meeting and several tough phone calls and my guts were really churning (worked up) - can this cause problems with blockages? It sort of makes sense if it does but I don't want to overreact and not sure if my doctor would sign me off work anyway for it. I don't have any other symptoms except tiredness (not surprising?)

I'm being careful eating, going swimming twice a week and going to a holistic chiropractor/therapist next week so doing my bit to look after myself but can't control work very much. Any thoughts/advice/help?
Diagnosed aged 31 in 1996 - emergency surgery (right hemicolectomy). Thought I'd only get 'it' once and have lived in relatively blissful ignorance, apart from a couple of hospital stays for obstructions (scar tissue), until March 09....major surgery, 2 resections, fistula and now only 195cm small bowel left. Not on any meds at present except B12 injections but know there will be some. Just getting used to my 'new' body and it's limitations........ July 09 hospital stay for obstruction & tests show disease back: now on Asacol and waiting to see which treatment I'm put on

I don't think stress so much will cause problems with your stricture, unless you eat something wrong. Now stress can do a number on a person period. When I am highly stressed I will get flare like symptoms that can knock me for a loop, but since I was prescribed my Xanax, when I feel things are getting out of control I take one of those and it helps.
