So I started my prep at 2:30pm and 3 hours have passed and I'm only 1/3 done. I've done the Miralax before and it was great but this time I am feeling like I'm gonna hurl. I just can not drink anymore.

I've never done the Miralax prep before, but here are a few general ideas that might help:

* have some mint tea or ginger tea
* suck on an ice cube
* have a frozen fruit-juice ice block, or an icy pole
* try drinking your prep through a straw - for some reason that can help.
* sometimes, vomiting can indicate that you've become dehydrated with the prep, so perhaps drink some ordinary (non prep) fluid for a while, and give yourself a break?

Hang in there. It's horrible, I know.

So I think I may be canceling my colonoscopy. The prep was supposed to be finished in 4 hours, well it's been 4 hours and I still have 2/3 left to drink. I've been taking long breaks, using the straw but I just can't do it.

What happens if it's not finished in four hours? Does it matter if you drink it over a longer period?

As I said, I don't have any experience with this prep...

I don't think it will really make much difference if I finish in 4 hours or 8 hours but I don't want to be up all night which is why I started 3 hours earlier the suggested start time. I am also trying really hard not to throw up. I suffer from cyclical vomiting and am afraid if I start I might not stop. I don't expect the scope to show anything so it shouldn't be a big deal if I cancel.

Have you tried taking Gravol? I took it for my last prep because I throw up really easily now, I still felt like I wanted to throw up but it made it so I couldn't (or at least without really wanting to lol).

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dimenhydrinate There are other names, it's sold as Gravol here though, but it's an over the counter anti-nausea medication.

Just looked it up. I have a whole stable of various anti-nausea medications and none of the help once I start throwing up unless administered via iv. It's 8pm and I started at 2:30pm, I'm only 1/2 done and haven't had a bowel movement yet. Oh and I took 2 dulcolax at 1:30.

In all the times Ive had a colonoscopy Ive never finished the prep in 4 hours.  Seriously though, drinking it through a straw helps a lot.  Usually I can get through half of it fine, but the second half kills me!  I just hold my nose and suck it through the straw fast.  I fill up a glass and try to get 1/3 of it down at a time, every 5 mins or so.  Also, I know you said you suffer from cyclical vomiting, I dont know what that all involves or if it has to do with your gag reflexes, but I put the straw deep in my mouth so when I suck in it just goes right down my throat and I hardly taste it.  Also making sure its SUPER cold helps a lot too. Goodluck! I hope you can get it down.

EDIT: Also, I never start having BMs until Im almost completely done with it, a lot of the time I worry that its not working, but it does once you start getting the second half done.

You sound like me last time I did a prep, it took me about 8 hours for it to start working, and I didn't get fully cleaned out before the test obviously. It was still enough to do the test, however. What time is your test at tomorrow? You might still be OK.

My test isn't until 2pm so I have plenty of time. I just want to stop drinking and start eating. I think my mistake was mixing the miralax in gatorade. It's just too sweet. I usually drink G2 but my market only had red and purple G2.

Hmmm. If you have such a long history of nausea, I wonder why they're making you do this at home and not in hospital, where you'd have the benefit of IV anti-nausea meds *now*.

I'm sorry you're struggling so much.

I've found it quite useful to not eat for a while before your procedure. It's really nice to only need to drink a few cups of the stuff before you're clear.

Oh My Gosh, Im going through the same thing right now!  I was told to do the Trilyte, and only got 1/3 down, gagging the entire time and also wanting to hurl.  I came on here, and sent my husband out to get the Mirilax, you guys are a lifesaver!  I hope this works.  I have barely eaten in a few days so that should help too.  I really do not want to reschedule.  Im sorry your going through this,  It truely sucks.  Tons of Luck to you!

I still have about 30 oz to go and no bowel movements. I'm giving up and just ate a Twix bar. I'll call in the morning and cancel. As I said earlier I really doubt the scope would show anything so I'm not going to reschedule. With the ducalax and half dose of miralax I got I should have started pooping by now. Oh well. I just hope I don't start in the middle of the night. If I sleep I can go to work tomorrow.

Funny! I meant to check the board earlier. I am prepping now too - Miralax. I think I will never, ever drink another Gatorade so long as I live! (unless it's prep again!)... I've been taking phenergan to keep nausea at bay, but I still have about 8 oz left. I don't think I can finish it either. My test is at 1pm tomorrow (14 hours). I have time, but it's 11:40 and I want to sleep! They actually said to do the second prep 12 hours before the procedure. Like I'm going to prep between 1-3am!

UGG! So nice to come to a place where everyone understands! Good luck to the rest of you!

So I didn't have a bowel movement until 4:30am. I spoke to my GI and her feeling is even with the amount I drank I should have had a movement earlier and should have more than I have. She thinks its because I've been constipated. I have to drink so more miralax today and I'm rescheduled for 1:30pm tomorrow. I just have to drink enough to have clear movements, so hopefully that won't be too much.

I have never had a gatorade or powerade. But i heard that that is what miralax is suppose to be mixed with. I think I am going to have to have a C-scope this fall and the pills that I have insisted on for the last few years are black boxed. So I guess I will have to try my first gatorade ever. Yuck, I just can't get past the colors, just so unnatural. Hope things went well for you and that the test goes OK.

I'm doing better with the miralax today, maybe because I mixed it in diet iced tea this time. I just hope it cleans me out today.

My original scope was scheduled for 2pm today. I am nowhere near clean so I'm drinking miralax again today until I am clean. I started this new batch at around 12:30pm. I'm about half way through and have had 1 bm. I'm now scheduled for 1:30pm tomorrow. I hope to be "clean" soon, get a good nights sleep and go to work in the morning for a few hours before heading out for my scope.

Jodie, my GI uses the Miralax prep also, but does not require it to be mixed with gatorade.  I can mix it with any beverage as long as it's not red.  The last few times I've done this prep, I mix the miralax with hot tea (by the glass) and drink it that way with a little sugar or honey.  It's very soothing to my stomach and I don't seem to get as bloated as I do with cold juicy-type of drinks.  You may want to give that a try.  Good luck!  Prep is no fun.

Yeah that prep is just cruel and unusual punishment! LOL I could never get it all down either, thankfully I was in the hospital and they didn't let me eat anything for a few days (due to all the bleeding I had). So luckily I was cleaned out. I think I got half of it down, and yes I DID throw up. Just awful. I'm hoping next time they would allow me to do the miralax prep.

I am also due to a colonoscopy tomorrow at 10am and started MoviPrep today at 3:30pm. I got down all of it over 60 minutes but it is now close to 6pm and nothing....I am cramped up and feel like I need to go but nothing. Has anyone taken MoviPrep? The box says first BM in about an hour but I am pushing two hours with nothing and getting nervous. I am suppoed to take another 32 ounces 5 hours before my procedure. Starting to freak out.
