Today as I tried to get through Wally World as quickly as possible with my much needed TP , I was accosted by wave after wave of over powering perfume worn by passing women in the store. We are not talking a hint of sent here, we are talking noxious fumes of the gag triger type. Whats up with that ? I mean , I like a wisper of the fragrance as much as the next guy but, geeeez, dont knock me over with the stuff. Am I missing a new trend here ? I thought a dab behind the ear, neck of behind the knee was the right stuff. Are they now bathing in it ? I could have fumigated the place with crohnie gas and no one would have had a clue. It was so bad it upset my guts...

Not a clue...I don't generally wear the stuff. Is it possible with the amount of scent you smelled that maybe it had been a broken bottle of the stuff not properly cleaned up? It could also be maybe heightened sense of smell. I get that sometimes when my stomach is really upset or PMS or hell, I dunno, when its sunshiney or rainy...LOL. I tend to avoid the smelly areas of stores now if I possibly can 'cause they can cause a headache which I can't get rid of in any normally feasible way.

Nope this was not a broken bottle. Each lady had a bomb of her very own. Maybe I do have a hightened olfactory.

Sniper, they must have been trying to attract you to them (I'm sure they find you irresistable)...or there's alot of alpha-females out there trying to "outsmell" the rest of us ladies.

I love perfume I have a HUGE variety but I only spray one or 2 squirts as I like to be subtle myself.

:)

Ditto Joie1, I don't wear the stuff myself. But you should try working in an office with "perfume" ladies!

PB4 -- it would take more than perfume to outsmell us CDers!!!

Hey Sniper...those of us women who use little to no perfume support you! I have been in restaurants where i could not eat my food because all I tated was some persons perfume (of course I have also found men bathing in cologne too---I thought that stopped with the 80's Polo bath trend)
Dx'd '90 (emergency rupture), symptoms ignored long before that, '03 fistulas and bad flagyl reactions, B12 weekly, Pentasa [until I surrender to the bigger meds]

I have one perfume that I like alot, and one that I will wear sometimes, if the mood strikes. But, never more that a squirt or two. One of my daughters seems to have a broken nose or something though because she can't seem to smell her perfume unless she has taken a bath in it. Some of the ones she wears are worse than others. When she lived at home and shared a bathroom with her sister, that was the only thing they bickered about. The bathroom had stink bombs in it! Eventually she had to start putting her perfume on in the car because the entire end of the house smelled for hours after she would leave for school! Now no one but her will ride in her car. Its like the entrance to a fancy department store, only the torture chamber version.

I have to agree some people just have no clue on how choking their colognes can be sometimes. Its not only the women, but even some men, that overdo on their perfumes. It does get to you after awhile.

Oh and the stores that spray their clothes and stink up entire wings of the mall! My younger daughter is working her last week at one of the most popular teen stores, she hates it. But, they have a special spray that she has to spray onto each table of clothing, 'six inches away, 3 sprays per table, every hour'. No wonder I can't even walk by those stores let alone shop in them. She doesn't were perfume, see the above post, but she comes home smelling like she does.

Sniper, call me crazy, but, I prefer the smell of the barn, full of horses and hay,and other things, than anything that comes out of a bottle.

Pb4, I dont think women wear perfume to attract men like me. How many of you ladies would wear such an odor just to have an ugly little fat man follow you around a store trying to get an extra sniff. Yes I have known men to soak up a ton of after shave. One I worked with used so much that the phone he used smell of it and would permeate your skin too , so no one used his phone. But the men have changed to that new stuff . The one with the pheromes in it. Its suppose to drive you girls wild. Truth is I have never seen one of these guys walking through the store with a line of women trailing in his sent. Myself, I like good old soap and water. Clean is the best smell I know of, or should I say no smell is better than too much. My shave cream smells just slightly like lemon,,very fitting for me. I am always telling my wife that she picked a lemon in the garden of love. Maybe I have been bombarded by bad smells for so long that I am super sensitive but my wife agrees, too much perfume is a stomach turner..

My theory is that the manufacturer puts something in the perfume to numb the wearer's nose. It sells way more perfume that way!

I've noticed it a lot more too. I generally put it on the neck and wrist, but I can't afford to be spraying it until I can't breathe (why does anyone want to?..).
People do need to tone it down...Most of them just aren't thinking about the people who will be really sensitive to it.

I can't stand any perfumes. I even buy fragrance free soaps and dryer sheets too.

Maybe we should hold a smell-off competition -- gassy Crohnies versus department store perfume ladies. Lets get ready to rumble!!!!!

I love them, but not all of them, the ones that smell more on the fresh/fruity side, not the strong ick smelling ones...some of them I find don't even last long and they're suppose to be parfumes not colognes, like the britney spears ones smell really nice, soft and fresh but they just don't last like a perfume is suppose to...sometimes in the summer I'll wear body sprays, the one that is my favorite smells like orange creamsicle, now who doesn't like the smell of that?

Ok I have to admit the smell of a guy with eternity for men on and I stop in my tracks (reminds me of high school)! Polo sport works too (my first love). YSL does a good one with called La Home.
I actually use lily pulitzers beachy (it is a palm beach state of mind...LOL), the escada one that changes every year, ck romance (for winter), and vera wang's sheer veil or the rose one.

How do I get some of that stuff that will numb my nose ? That could come in handy for other things as well. Dont get me wrong, a hint of White Shoulders is great, but some folks bath in perfume and some use it to cover B O,,by the way,,it doesn't.. I think perfume is best when you have to get close to know its there,,very close. That means it does not hit you from across the building and knock your nose sideways. By the way , I smell like cotton candy . If you saw the movie, you know what I'm talking about.. Now where is that ball of string ???

I remember having to change pews in church because a perfume was so heavy I couldn't breathe. I sincerely hope that I don't offend either with artificial scent or with "natural ones" either. I have to remember to put a miniature can of air sanitizer in my purse for when I use public fa***ies.
Take care. Lois

I don't get how the pyoderma people got all the heat for speaking between themselves in one thread, and chapter and verse rained down until they all left and it's fine to have a thread about perfume. I'm sorry, I'm not trying to rain on anyones parade, but I do feel it's unfair.

Janicea,,,life aint fair. thats why some people have crohns and some dont. I do think OT threads are allowed to some extent and I just like to bring a smile when I can . Sorry I dont know what happened in the other thread so I cant comment but this one is about a crohnie nose being super sensitive.

eljay, whne I was in jr.high school our principal was famous for dousing herself in her horrible smelling "colonge" that she wore, we always knew if she had been down one of the hallways cuz her "smell" lasted so long, or when she just stayed in her office all day. Some students complained that they were getting bad headaches, so she was asked to tone it down, she chose not to and resigned at the end of the school year.

MMM, I love all the escadas too, I also love true religion (which is funny cuz I'm an athiest LOL), bob macky, lolita limpicki, angel/demon, and vera wang's sheer veil, and many, many more, I have a huge collection...on men I also like polo sport and some others, but my all time favorite is still Stetson on a guy.

Hmm, is there some part of "facilities" that is a bad word? Maybe I am naive, just wondering why it was asterisked. LOL

Okay, it's here this time; so it must have been a typo.  Please forgive whatever I said.
