I had my 2nd scope yesterday. It is now showing mild to moderate inflammation throughout my colon, but the ileum is still fine. This while on 40mg of prednisone. So I asked if it means I really have ulcerative colitis. Doc wants to wait for the biopsy results. She hasn't changed my meds yet, but mentioned remicade. With my bad insurance I'm not sure that I can afford it. All the meds beyond pred scare me anyway. I'm hoping they will find out it's some crazy infection.

In the past between what the original scope showed and my symptoms they felt pretty sure it was cd. But these new results make me wonder. I guess it's not going to change much as far as treatment goes anyway. Is it possible to have both?

You may have what is called Crohns Colitis. Thats when Crohns is mainly in your colon. Many on this forum have this type of Crohns. The one I am most familiar with is PB4. If you are concerned with the Remicade costs, have you thought about trying Imuran or 6mp instead? Many on this forum are having great success with these meds. Good luck!

I will have to see what my options are. I was a little too drugged to make any good decisions right after the scope anyway. I just always though remicade was used only when others failed. I'm trying to cope with this news as I don't like the drug options I'm facing. I guess my luck has run out a little.

Yup as Nanners said, I too have crohn's colitis which is simply CD affecting your colon, if you've had CD affecting other parts of your GI tract like anywhere in the small bowel in the past, then you still have CD (when I first got sick CD was affecting my colon, rectom TI and anus all at the same time), so your DX will not change to UC, UC is different from CD in the fact that it's limited to your colon/rectom only, CD can affect any part of the GI tract, also with UC the inflammation is surfacable on the mucosal lining, but CD can affect the many layers of the mucosal lining...CD will also have skipped patterns of inflammation (healthy tissues in between inflammed) with UC the entire area will be inflammed.

The same treatment used for UC is also used for crohn's colitis.

It is possible to have both UC and CD, but one doesn't turn into the other (if anyone tries to tell you it does, they're wrong and infact you'd have been misDX and not be a case where CD turned into UC or vise versa, that just doesn't happen) and only about 2% of patients have both UC and CD.

My bum is broken....there's a big crack down the middle of it! LOL :)
