Does anyone else take two shots of Humira a week?  Just trying to confirm this dose for my own peace of mind.  The pharmacy I go to, Humira (the protection plan hotline) and some on here seem to be a little shocked that I am taking so much.

I did one shot every other week for awhile, then he changed it to one per week. Did that for a year or so and now he just upped it to two shots a week. And he added methotrexate.

I got upped to 1x per week a couple months ago.  I was told that once that became ineffective I would have to switch to a different medication.  I was told the life of humira in a person before it became ineffective was usually 1-3 years.  I am in year 2.

Dx CD 2003 but probably had it 10 years prior

Dx Primary Sclerossing Cholangitis 2006

GB out '95, Appendix out '96, Kidney stent '02/stone removal '02, Resection '04, fistulectomy '06 2x, tubal '05

Currently on 100mg 6mp-50 mg,  and Remicade every 8 weeks, Ambien, predsnisone, humira 1x wk, flagyl, cypro, diflucan, probiotic, questran lite

I have been advised to go to two shots per week too. Haven't done it yet. Good luck!

LisaLee-Thank you so much for responding!!! I cannot tell you how relieved I feel now that I know that I am not the only one taking this high of a dose. I was really starting to second guess my Dr, which I have never done before! Best of luck to you too!!!

I think I may have seen people on the UC board mention having to take double dose. Maybe you can search and find more answers...

Hi Sarah,

I have been on Humira for three years. After about 1 1/2 years, it began to lose its effectivness. I have tried two shots every other week and one shot a week.

One of my G.I.'s is a very well respected Crohn's/Colitis specialists in Southern California. He was the one who suggested trying two a week if need be. He has some patients like me, who just seem to need more and have been successful with increasing the doseage to control flare-ups. He also said that I could try two one week and one the following week. So far, I have been stubborn and have stayed with two every other week.

Are you currently taking the two a week?

Take Care! :)

I did once a week, it still wasn't cutting it and my GI opted to switch me to Cimzia at that point. He said we could up the Humira to 2x a week but he really felt like it wasn't working anymore. I had been on it over 2 years. We did a scope to make sure and sure enough, major issues going on.

It's not unheard of to do it 2x a week but I'm a little surprised your GI wouldn't decide to move you to something else as the Humira isn't working as well anymore.
