I only take 50 mg a day and I noticed a slight difference. It was enough though to get me off the Endocort (even if only for a short time). I have had many people mention that 50 mg isn't very much especially considering I am overweight, however my doctor freaked out and had me come in immediatly when I called to say I had a fever for three days straight.

I believe imuran can take up to 4-6 mo's to fully kick in--I would call your GI to see what his opinion is.

Good luck

Immuran took me about 5 months to notice a difference.I'm on 100mg. I was on pred when I started though. Taking Immuran made me really bloated at first..really. I hated it! Called my Dr. and told him I didn't like the Immuran and wanted to try something else. He said all my numbers were looking good and to continue. My stomach was always gurgling and just felt weird. After about 5 months it smoothed out. Wonder what it would be like to go off now...?? Can't ...but wonder. I've been on it for 4 years now. Stick with it...it does get better.

I've been on Imuran since my original diagnosis. I started off at 200mg but am up to 225mg. It is a drug that typically takes a while to kick in. You might want to talk to your gi about upping your dose. For what it's worth, I'm at a higher dosage than is typically recommended but my bloodwork was always been in the safe zone.

I'm on 150 mg and yes, it can take 3-6 months..I was always told only about 3, but now 4 months and others say up to 6, so it can differ between the person and the case. Once it kicks in for me I usually do really good on it. If its not working you can do what my docs do and put me on a taper prednisone dose until it does kick in.

I started Imuran thru the U of M's ImmunoSuppressant program and was told up to 6 months for it to take full effect. It does "need" assistance those first few months. I didn't want to take pred either so I was on Cipro for 5 months along w/the Imuran. Plus Pentasa. That was .... 2003 I think I started it. I've been in total or symptomatic remission since the first 3-4 months w/only one very mild flare about a year ago.
