It's almost 2:00 am, and I have tried counting sheep. Then I decided to examine the back of my eyelids, and I swear there were spiders there. (Have you checked the backs of YOUR eyelids for spiders lately?) Then, I think I slipped into a mini-sleep for a few minutes until I woke up wringing wet from sweating. I get so wound up on prednisone that I just can't sleep! Does anyone have any helpful hints? Tomorrow is a Remicade infusion, and I am going to beg for IV Benadryl. smhair

I would ask your GI for a sleeping pill of some kind. When I am taking the high doses of prednisone its the only thing that works for me. Of course my doc makes me wait awhile every round of prednisonie I take to see if it will ocur. Good luck and I hope you get you Benadryl.

I have insomnia when I'm on pred. Benadryl seems to work enough so I can get at least some sleep.

Also make sure you are taking it very early every morning. This will help to avoid some of the insomnia too. Good luck!

Agreed with Nanners, it's always best to take all your pred first thing as early in the morning as possible, it makes a HUGE difference with the insomnia issue.

I agree with all the above.. you should ask your doctor to give you a sleeping pill of some sort.. I take Ambien.. When I was on my highest dose of Pred, (50mg) Even when I took 10mg of Ambien at night, I would only get about 5 hours of sleep... lol.. (you are supposed to be able to get 8 hours), but I was happy with 5 for sure! Now that I'm tapering and on 40mg.. I still take 10mg of Ambien and I am getting a better night's sleep now... 6 to 7 hours.... When I was able to taper down to 15mg.. I didn't even really need the Ambien then so didn't take it, but then I flared back up so now I'm back up on the Pred and on Ambien again...

Also I take my Pred first thing in the AM.. I used to break up the dose, but it was even harder to get to sleep that way... Good luck and I hope you get some restful sleep soon :)
