So...I have to start by saying I have a 5yr old and a 3yr old(both wonderful little girls) and that is why I am wondering if anyone has any suggestions on how to deal with being sooooo tired ALL the time. I literally fall asleep sitting up on the couch in the evenings and my husband works at that time? I feel absolutley aweful and I try so hard not to but it happens...and I mean the kids stay right there on me and I wake and dose only for minutes at a time but still feel bad.

I had another colonoscopy last week and they checked my blood and everything was normal. The doc says it's just part of this flare I am having(along with the joint pain and headaches?) but I simply don't have the option to got to sleep and when I do fall asleep I wake up with my joints feeling stiff and painful!

Anyone have ANY suggestions?

Welcome! I used to be able to tolerate coffee but no longer. Does it work for you? Are you getting enough sleep at night? I know my docs stressed getting extra sleep in flareups but that is tough with little ones.
Dxd CD in 2003. Scope Aug/09 shows UC.
Meds: Colazal, prednisone, vancomycyn, prilosec, darvocet, bentyl
Currently in bad flare-up

Hi Jess and welcome to the HW forum.
I have four children and when they were young and I was exhausted I napped off all the time too. When you feel like this try and put a DVD on for them or get them interested in a craft or book in the same room where you can have a quick nap.
Are you taking any vitamins or a probiotic? These may help with your energy levels so you are not so fatigued.
Sorry you are going through this, its hard when you have littlies and you want to do so much with them, but feel so yuk.
Take care

Well, I have tried vitamins but the only ones that have ever not hurt my stomach were the prenatals but then again nothing hurt while I was pregnant....weird huh? And I get on average about 7-8 hours of sleep. The do well with a movie and usually sit on me while they watch so I can feel when they get up. I just feel like it is unfair to them that this has become a regular occurance.

Pregnancy was great for me too - the only times I forgot I had Crohn's :)
I always had an attack of the guilts whenever I needed to rest, but figured I gave my kids all my attention when I wasnt sleeping and some kids dont even get that from healthy parents. You need to rest and look after yourself so that you can look after your children - dont beat yourself up, thats not fair to you.

I have heard B12 in the methycobalamin form is a great energy boost, especially in the form of injection. Maybe your doc could order them for you? They are teeny tiny pin prick needles...like an insulin needle. They pick, but don't "hurt."
Posts refer to my 9 year old girl
  • Started with 30 mg Prednisone, tapered off over 3 months

Then continued with:

  • Pentasa, 3 blue horse-sized capsules, 3 x daily
  • Forvia multivitamin/mineral for Crohnies
  • Coromega
  • Calcium
  • VSL#3, 2 x day
  • Custom Probiotics: 6-Strain Blend, 1 x day
  • Culturelle, 1 x day

Thank you so much for your suggestions I go back to the doc Monday...I will def ask him about the b12 and I know SydneyJo...I will try to focus more on that and just make the most of the energy I do have with my kids and hopefully it will allow me to enjoy what i can now and let my body try to regain some strength and get out of this flare...

Hugs Jess0216!!! I am currently in remission and everyday when I get off work I invaritably fall asleep on the couch. Luckily for me my kids are all grown now, so I don't have those worries like you, hence the big hugs:) My husband calls my naps "A nap before I go to bed". I just think the fatigue is part and parcel parts of just having this darn disease. I highly recommend the B12 shots. I actually get them every 2 weeks. I think I would be constantly asleep if I didn't get them. I also just started Vitamin D, supposed to help with the fatigue too. Ask your doc to test yours too. Good luck!
