I always did! You have to be careful and not overeat, which is tough, because the pred makes you fell hungry ALL the time.

Absolutely. Pred always makes me hungry, not matter what time of day it is. I remember eating at least double the amount the last time I was on prenisone.
Diagnosed with CD July 2007
Currently on Remicade, Imuran, probiotics, folic acid, multivitamin.

HUGS to you!

Arg, I always gained weight on prednisone. I had this ongoing joke that I would turn into the marshmallow man from ghost busters every time on got on the 'roids. They are awful! I always got the moon face too...ak! My friends could always tell when I was on the 'roids b/c of my face!!

Just make sure you are taking your calcium and vitamin D. My doc never told me that prednisone could cause bone loss, and a dexascan showed I had osteopenia in my spine due the the prednisone. I've been working my tail off ever since to try and get my bones strong again!!

I blogged quite extensively about my steroid love/hate relationship. It became a strong one as prednisone was the only med that kept me in remission for my first 2.5 years after being diagnosed.

Take care and hang in there!!

The first few times I took prednisone, i gained alot of weight. Since I have been dealing with this now for almost 10 years, I have learned not over indulge when I am on steroids. I make sure to drink lots of water and snack on healthy foods (exercswie as much as possible) You will still gain weight from water retention and maybe get moon face, but i can do it now an only gain 5 pounds over the taper...Goodluck!!!

I adamantly refuse pred unless I'm on my death bed because I gained a LOT last time I took it. It made me very depressed and introverted, which was more miserable than the Crohn's.

^Same here. I made a vow to myself to never take it again. Gives me insomnia, makes me moody - maybe even bipolar, and I'm not much fun to be around.

Hugs to you!!!

I will not take predz any E more!! The very last time I took it I gained 45 lbs. but it wasn't normal lbs it was the non strechy fat. It hurt so bad. The worst of all was I couldn't sleep for the life of me, no matter how tired I was. I have tapered down 8 different times, but the last time was so bad, even the doc wont give it to me. Plus right after I'm down I get a flare, no point.  Good for you guys who have learned not to over eat. But I could not. If I didn't eat before going to bed I would wake up in the middle of the night starving so much I would be sick.

I wish you the best of luck!!! we are here for vanting!

Thanks to all of you who wrote your thoughts on prednisone....glad I'm not alone. I don't ever want to take it but most of the time I am desperate to feel good even when it makes me look crazy. Thanks Again!

Eating high in salt while on pred can particularly increase risk of weight gain and water retention too...just try and eat as healthy as possible and drink lots of water to help flush ick out of your system.

:)
bee propolis caps 500mg one cap twice/day
omegas 369 caps one cap twice/day
probiotics 10 billion cfu once/day
vitamins C-calcium ascorbate (easy on the gut) and vitamin A each once/day
Prodiem fibre supplement one cap before bed
I've also altered my diet (no junky stuff at all, processed, fast-foods, refined sugars, ect) and exercise regularly.
I went from 30+ bloody BM's/day with lots of lower back pain to an average of 5/day no bleeding no back pain and completely formed stools, still have severe urgency issues.
~~~~~~~~My bum is broken....there's a big crack down the middle of it! LOL :)~~~~~~~~
Thats funny you said that, my parents and siblings used to stick the marshmallows in there cheeks and walk around and make fun of me about it.
I'm a skinny 6'1 135 lb 24 year old male, so i always enjoyed the weight gain when i get prednisone, it gave me a boost because i am forever trying to gain weight and it never works....prednisone gets gives me about 10-25lbs depending on the amount and how long i am on it. but i can see how it is very irratating for a lot of people good luck
