I'm in a mild flare and have been taking Apriso for 29 days. Tomorrow is my last day and I forgot to refill it. No problem, right? Wrong. With my insurance, I'm required to use a mail-order pharmacy after the first month, so I have to mail the script off tomorrow (I did remember to get it written-just forgot to mail it), wait for them to fill it, wait for it to come back. It will probably take 3 weeks. Am I screwed? Will stopping Apriso suddenly have serious effects? Like, is it one of those drugs you have to wean off of? The Crohn's hasn't really improved much, but it wasn't too terribly bad to begin with. I stopped taking the doxycycline last week because it was making me fall asleep while working. So I won't be on any crohn's meds after tomorrow for a few weeks. Will I be ok?? I cannot afford to pay for it out of pocket, even for a few days-it's like $700/month if I remember correctly.

I'm from a different country so don't understand your insurance situation, but *surely* if you ring the ins co and explain the situation, they might help you find a loophole?

Surely it's in their best interests to keep you medicated and out of hospital?

I don't know anything about Apriso, but I agree with Ivy. Maybe call the doctor's office before calling insurance. If nothing else, they may have samples they can give you to hold you over until you get the prescription. If not, I can't imagine they'd be like, sorry, you're screwed, you'll just have to wait.

Yeah, your GE should have samples. Mine sure has given me plenty. And/or get a script for Asacol to tide you over--it's the same type of drug and cheaper (but not cheap).

I'd be shocked if your doc wouldn't be able to get you some, either samples or a delayed payment or something.

can you call the pharmacy if you have the script number to at least cut the mail time down? mesalamine is not like prednisone.. to be weaned down, but crohns can be tricky when you change someting. Did you take your antibiotics for 10 days striaght, because I'd rather see you taking it.

What antibiotics?

Randy, you're a hoot. I totally forgot today was a postal holiday. Ok, so add an extra day to my 'no meds' situation.

I'll call the doc and see. I bet he'll just write a script for a couple weeks to fill at my pharmacy. I can pay $21 and have the meds overnighted once they're ready, but I still have to mail off the script. OR have my doc fax it in. They will not accept faxes unless they're from a doc's office.

Yay! My GE is giving me samples.

I called my insurance to see if they could override their one-month policy this time and allow me to fill it locally. Nope, no can do. I also asked why I was charged a double co-pay for the first month ($70 instead of $35). They said it was because the plan only allows for 100 pills/month and my script was for 120. Seriously? I have to take 4/day. Doesn't matter-they only cover 100/month, no matter the drug or prescribed amount.

OH, the antibiotic question-I used the wrong word. It's not doxycycline. It's dicyclomine. It's an anti-spasmodic. Sorry for the confusion.

He gave me 12 days of samples. We'll see how quick this mail-order pharmacy is! Thanks for that suggestion-I assumed he wouldn't have samples for some reason.
