Why do wounds drain when they heal?

is that part of the healing process...anybody know...? I mean drain..when their is no infection?

 Crohn's Lupus Hyperthyroid..Pentasa Remicade Fistula removed..skin tag removed!

Good morning! Yes, it is all part of the body's natural process. Not nice to deal with, but quite normal. It will subside over time.

Hope you are doing well today!
Diagnosed with Crohn's in early 2007.  Several peri-rectal abscesses and two fistulae with setons.  Allergic to Remicade and Humira.  Currently on 6MP, and vitamins D and B-12.

Just the body's natural cleaning process.

What if its a bad color..after a fistulotomy like yellow green..is that because they laid open the track and it has to drain?

that depends on how much and for what duration?

I would think you would have some pretty nasty drainage for a couple of weeks no problem.
You might just have to change the dressing more often.

However if you are getting a fever or pustulas at the location that is different.

Oh..its not that much...i don't have a fever..nor do i see pustulas but i will look to make sure...thanks for your help..this is new territory for me:)

I thought of another suggestion. That might help with your comfort level, how about using flexible fridge (not an ice pack, a gel pack you put in the fridge) pack over the area?

thanks navy...thats a great idea..because it is somewhat inflammed...and that won't get better until the 3rd of nov when i get my third Remicade infusion..anything to make the pain a bit better right!:)
