See I am the opposite of you, even with taking Amodium AD 2 pills 3 X a day, and only eating Rice, Banamas, and Rice Chexs. This has been going on for over a week, and I need to call my Dr every day to give him an update. Last Thursday my potasssium was really low, So I went back on potassium piils, had blood drawn this morning, and now it's lower then it was last week. GRRRRRRRRR

I know I am new at this Crohns thing, but I am getting so frustrazted ay being in pain, having no energy at all, well o.k. having like 3 hrs of energy per day and thats it.

I wish you luck in finding out a hasppy medium

What I have found to work when I have a flare, even a minor one, is to go on a liquid diet until it is over. Give your digestive tract a rest and if the Immodium is not working then maybe the liquid diet will help the Immodium work better.
Only you can change your life.  No one can do it for you.

Dx w/CD 12 years ago.  Syptoms for two years prior.  No meds until 2007 when I was hospitalized with a severe flare-up.  Found a wonderful GI and since have been placed on:  Pentasa 4 grams per day, Entocort prn, Cipro/Flagyl combo prn, tried Imuran but scared to go back, Osteopenia, B-12, modified diet (constantly), Multi-vitamin/mineral

C may be due to a stricture. If that is the cause, it may be followed by diarrhea and usually has pain or fever connected with it. The next possible cause is bacterial overgrowth (Google SIBO). That can cause either C or D and is usually characterized by gas or bloating especially after meals. Then there are many other possibilities. Most common is diet and enzyme insufficiency. If you are not digesting properly, sensors in the small intestine detect undigested food and brakes peristalsis. This often results in acid reflux. It may also be caused by taking Proton Pump Inhibitors - the usual remedy for GERDs. This will disguise the acid reflux but still messes up your digestion. Then there are several nerve related problems - pain in the rectal area can cause a form of bowel paralysis and there are a couple of other problems that actually damage the bowel nerves and result in serious lack of bowel movement.

I am a crohnie who suffers with constipation too. I use stool softners every night to help keep things softner and easier to pass. If I didn't use these daily I would be in a world of hurt. Good luck!

I have constipation too, miralax seems to help some what, but there are so many things that could be the cause, your crohn's, your meds., other health prob., I feel for you, some times I will go a wk or so before I can go. If you go to a chiropractor they can adjust you so that it can help you go, I know it sounds crazy. Yet, my brother-in-law is a chiro, but he lives in another state I love when he adjusts me it makes me feel so much better, plus it seems to help with joint pain. Chiro will work with you and your crohn's too, they are very good about that.

Taking some meds can cause constipation. In clinical Pentasa trials, constipation was reported by under 1% of patients.

Perhaps the safest thing to do is to take probiotics, which might better regulate your GI tract.

Supplements like calcium can cause constipation, too.

I like the stool softners myself. Work faithfully for me and do not give me any bloating or gas. JMHO
