I had a cat scan which showed a cyst near my ilium on the large bowel. I have been complaining of MILD pain in the belly for the last 5 months. Is this a common thing?? I have been referred to a surgeon. Can antibiotics be used instead??? I would appreciate any thoughts or info. Thanks Frank

If there is communication between the bowel and cyst then an area of bowel is likely weakened, inflammed , or perhaps there is a fistula (small sinus like canal), that is letting some unwanted bowel contents to gather and collect in the cyst area. The three possible solutions are medication , draining alone (large needle) and surgery, or any combination of these (as this is only my opinion). Ask your doc. Diet change might also help.
