As far as I know you should avoid all bee products if you have allergies to bee stings, bee pollen can help to gradually modify allergic reactions to pollens and build immunity...and you should avoid chamomile if you have ragweed allergies. You can also do a small test with bee propolis to see if you're allergic.

:)

bee propolis caps 500mg one cap twice/day
omegas 369 caps one cap twice/day
probiotics 10 billion cfu once/day
vitamins C-calcium ascorbate (easy on the gut) and vitamin A each once/day
Prodiem fibre supplement one cap before bed
I've also altered my diet (no junky stuff at all, processed, fast-foods, refined sugars, ect) and exercise regularly.
I went from 30+ bloody BM's/day with lots of lower back pain to an average of 5/day no bleeding no back pain and completely formed stools, still have severe urgency issues.

pb4 - where did you get your bee propolis? My local alternative pharmacy doesn't carry it and wasn't real sure where to get it from.

I use to keep bees and I had a lot of people swear to me that it helped with allergies. Thats local honey , not that stuff you buy in stores, its blended . You need local honey because it has local pollen. But as pb4 says, if you are allergic to bee stings I would not try it. Only good for allergies like runny nose and eyes, that sort of thing.

Former, I buy my bee propolis online at puritans pride, actually just ordered more today, they're having a sale, buy 1 get one free or buy 2 get 3 free, so I ordered the 5 of course, cuz I take 2/day...I'm in Canada and even with the exchange rate and shipping I find it quite affordable.

It sounds like bee propolis warants further investigation.

Yeah Carnival Huckster, I love Seinfeld, I watch the repeats everynight in bed, nothing like falling alseep to some good laughs.

I've only tried bee propolis liquid from my local health food store and the caps from puritans pride but I have heard that both twin labs and vitacost brands are good too, infact a member from another board that I learned about the bee propolis from said he used the twin labs in the beginning and went into remission from it, which is why I gave bee propolis a shot.

Holista is a brand available from Pharmasave (Canada). I don't know if all Pharmasaves have it, but mine does - small town of about 20,000. It is nice that it is available locally.

Pb4,,bees have been disappearing at an alarming rate . Its a mystery. Lots of unproved theories but no solid evidence. Verola mites have knocked populations down in hives but there is help for this if caught in time. The vanishing bees is another story. Hives vanish over night and its not from swarming. I was just wondering if you have seen any price increases for propolis. Sense I cant have honey (diabetis ) I have not kept up with its price either. Whats your experience ????

I know it's scary Sniper, I heard about it on the news and it had me concerned that they might have issues with even producing bee products as a result...but so far I have not noticed any price increase on the propolis I just bought and even if there is a slight increase then I can live with that more than not having any to buy.

pb4 ... one of my favorite episodes is "The Summer of George" ... it is on YouTube ... I laughed myself to tears over that one! The bee propolis sounds like it is worth a try (I'm desperate and will try anything!) One thing I noticed is that most of the major brands seem to be extracts of propolis, rather than the propolis itself. Do the brands you use consist of extracts?

Carnival Huckster...I love all the seinfeld episodes (well, with the exception of some of the very first shows, thankfully it quickly developed into a great show though)....

I'm not 100% sure but on my bottle that I get from puritans it doesn't say anything about extracts...maybe I need to re-read it though, I've been taking it for 5 yrs and have the same positive results from the time I started to now, my GI enocurages me to continue with it, he says it's 100% non-toxic so it's safe to use daily and indefinitely, so even if it is "extracts" it's helping me...I did experiment with it in the beginning though, after taking it for about 2 months I didn't take it for one day and the next day the bleeding started up so that was enough of that, I started taking it again and haven't stopped since.

Can I ask what the bee propulis is supposed to help with Crohns? Just curious, I have heard talk about it, but can't remember what is it supposed to do:)

Nanners - if you check Pubmed you can find some good info in peer reviewed journals concerning the antibiotic and anti-inflammatory effects of bee products, in particular bee propolis which appears to be the most potent of all the bee products. As to the mechanism of action, I would think that it might be a combo of the antibiotic/anti inflammatory properties. There are several interesting studies on propolis and honey, but none dealing directly with IBD. Interestingly enough, both honey and propolis show effective antibiotic effects on MRSA - better even than vancomycin according to one study.
