Hey All,
Thank you for all the advice with my left side scare this weekend. I called my primary and told her what happend, she diffentley thinks I have a narrowing or stricture and if it happens again before Nov 19( NEW GI Dr.) she wants to do a barium test. Over the last couple of weeks I'v e had more things come up. I have researched and found (NOT to be grouse)Sorry, that women with chrons are prone to cyst and vaginal ulcers. Well 2 weeks ago I had a vaginal cyst near the rectum that had to be lanced and packed(dr. said didnt seem like it was connection to possible fissure, this healed and now 2 weeks later I have a vaginal ulcer near where the cyst was but all close to the rectum.
I do not have any STD's I also work for a Gyn. Dr.. I was wondering if anyone else has had the problems? It seems more and more things are starting to happen and I hope this GI will listen and new test will finally show something. I defintley think things have progressed with left side pain 24/7 and the painful cyst and vaginal ulcer that is getting worse! Ugh If anyone believes this is related with chrons please let me know. What I've researched says yes, My teeth are breaking and gums sore and bleed now also. But I know my body is so defecent. Somedays Im so exhausted with basically living on no food I dont know how I make it. I know I shouldnt drink coffee but I never get constipated and I took zofran for 2 days and went a day and half not going to bathroom and that's when I almost passed out from left side pain on toilet.
Anyways! Thank you for any advice and I hope everyone is doing well.

There are skin issues with crohns. There can also be dental issues. But sweetie you have to eat, even if it is baby food or non formed jello.  I think we are more concerned about the acid in coffee, then it's and what that does to your guts.  Have you used some natural remedies for constipation like apple juice?

Eating is a big issue. It's sad but I raise 3 teens on my own and dont have the money to buy food I should be makeing. I eat chicken, rice, potatoes, canned peas, green beans and splurge on bologna sandwich and cookies ect? Which I always pay the price for with bloating, stomach ache and left side pain. I drink decaff coffee(addicted) to keep me going to bathroom everyday. If I go 1 day without going im sick. I get a mild stomachache from decaff, but if I have reg. coffee or tea it takes about 2 days 2 recover. I've just learned what I can manage to eat, even with after effects and what not to eat that makes me very sick. So it's a toss up, mild stomach ache ect or severe stomach ache. It's takes what I have to feed 3 teens. UGH! LOL
But I know I cant give up and my kids are great support to me. I cant even handle yougurt and vitamins seem to make me sick everytime I try them. Even flinstones? Crazy I know. LOL

The bloating, left side pain and stomach ache are all possibly caused by bacterial overgrowth in your small intestine. Depending on the bacteria that grow there, it can cause either constipation or diarrhea. Bacteria growing in your SI are a problem because they compete with your digestion for food. The food in your SI is only partly digested and bacteria are happy to consume the partly digested starches and sugars found there. This results in inflammation pain and gas from bacterial action. The inflammation can cause swelling and thus strictures. If left long enough, damage is done and scar tissue results.

What to do? Apart from antibiotics which don't actually help in the long run, the thing that I would suggest is the SCD plan. It starts with low or no starch/sugar foods to bring the bacteria under control and slowly adds foods as you get to feeling better. For more info, see: http://www.scdiet.org/

If it is sugars and starches that are the problem, commercial yogurt and flintstones both have sugars in them that can cause problems, so that is not surprising. If you have problems with constipation, you should try taking milk of magnesia in the short run. Longer term, you should include a fiber supplement (Prodiem is the safest one for Crohn's) and make sure you drink lots of water.

Sounds like an abcess/fistula...hope you get things figured out, feel better soon.

bee propolis caps 500mg one cap twice/day
omegas 369 caps one cap twice/day
probiotics 10 billion cfu once/day
vitamins C-calcium ascorbate (easy on the gut) and vitamin A each once/day
Prodiem fibre supplement one cap before bed
I've also altered my diet (no junky stuff at all, processed, fast-foods, refined sugars, ect) and exercise regularly.
I went from 30+ bloody BM's/day with lots of lower back pain to an average of 5/day no bleeding no back pain and completely formed stools, still have severe urgency issues.

Hey Nebraska,

I suffer with constipation related to my Crohns too. I take stool softners nightly to keep things softer and easier to pass. You might want to try those vs the coffee. I cannot take vitamins either, they always upset my stomach. But one supplement that I have had recent success with is Vitamin D. I started taking 2000 units and it has really helped with my fatigue and joint pain, maybe that might be helpful to you too. Good luck!

Hi Nebraska,

I just wanted to chime in and say I had very similar problems as yours over the summer before I was diagnosed. I had a bartholian cyst, and then I had vaginal ulcers- they looked just like canker sores, and they were seriously painful when I went the the bathroom. I went to the gynecologist to get tested, no STDs. I had a lot of other things going on in addition to diarrhea- lots of extra-intestinal issues, and yes I do think they were all related to Crohn's. Now that I'm in remission- knock on wood- the ulcers went away, although I occasionally still get small cysts every now and then, but they're usually not painful and go away on their own.
