As you know, I'm going through a rough patch with my Crohn's. My doctor thinks it may be with all of the stress in my personal life that is causing my Crohn's to just spiral out of control.
I am wondering if any of you have taken an anti-depressant that didn't upset your stomach. My doctor wants me to get on wellbutrin, but I've read so many bad reviews. Several people reported an upset stomach which is the last thing I need since I already burn, cramp, and hurt when I eat. People also reported hair loss---I'm losing my hair as it is, at lightning speed, because I've lost thirty pounds in about two months. It's terrible. I don't want to lose more hair. Help!!!!
I'm also going to check out the depression forum as well so I can learn more, but I just need to know if the meds have made anyone's stomach spiral out of control even more. Thanks!

You might be interested and heartened to hear that Wellbutrin was a popular topic of conversation here on the Crohn's forum a few years ago, just as LDN is popular now. There was some evidence then that Wellbutrin could be used as a Crohn's treatment, *as well as* an antidepressant. You might like to search back a few years and do a bit of reading and investigating and see for yourself.

Me, I tolerated Mirtazapine ok... but I think these things are highly individualistic and you're going to need to find a medicine that works for *you*. Sadly, sometimes you just need to ride out the side effects. Doctors often say that they get better in about 6 weeks or so. :-(

Best wishes,

Ivy.

Thanks for the reply :-)
My Gastro actually wanted me to go on Wellbutrin...I'm so afraid to lose even more hair. Every time I brush my hair it falls out. I've practically gone from completely overeating to barely eating. It's caused me to lose weight and my hair! Buuut if I will benefit on the Crohn's part, I may just suck it up and try it. It's worth a shot. It should grow back, right?
Thanks for the advice. It gives me a starting point in my research. Again, Thanks!

I think Navy knows some good tips on hair loss. Maybe start a new thread about hair, in the hopes it will catch her attention?

You may well find that the hair loss is simply because you're so ill. I lost about 1/3 of mine during my worst flare... and yes, it is distressing, isn't it?

I was (and still am) on Prozac @ 40mg per day. Initially I did incredibly well on Prozac; it, along with the SCD helped induce a remission that lasted for 3 full years. Recently, while I have continued taking Prozac though, my Crohn's has again spiraled out of control. I'm not saying the Crohn's and Prozac are related necessarily -- I just thought it was interesting how when I first started taking Prozac I happened to go into remission (coincidence perhaps.)
