Hi have just watched the news and they were talking about using Bio glue for patients with fistula's to the lung, Firstly i have never heard of this glue, also that you can get fistula's to your lungs! has anybody tried this stuff for their fistula? I have a fistula coming through my tummy(the name is so long and i can't spell it!!!) which was operated on but still leaks only a small amount but wondered if the glue could be used. has anyone had success with it? it all sounds very interesting. any info would great! Hi Bev,

I saw a show a few years ago about a glue (similar to superglue) that was being used by a few docs to close small incisions. I don't know anything more about it but I have been wondering why it hasn't become common usage.

Hopefully someone else will have better info.

I hope you get your leak plugged successfully soon, it must be very unpleasant.

I have heard of fibrin glue, but I think its success rate is low -- at least in Crohnies. Sad.
Diagnosed with Crohn's in early 2007.  Several peri-rectal abscesses and two fistulae with setons.  Allergic to Remicade and Humira.  Currently on 6MP, and vitamins D and B-12.

Well...I don't know about filling fistulas, but after I was opened up to do surgery around my ovaries they stitched that area up and used only glue to keep my skin closed. It works really well, and it seems more comfortable than having stitches inside and outside.
Diagnosed with Crohn's in May of 2008.
Currently taking: Prednisone, pentasa, omeprazole, and humira. Using probiotics and a multivitamin.

Too bad they didn't use glue when I had heart surgery,,then I wouldn't have the trouble I have with airports and metal detectors. Its great when you look like you swallowed a slinky in an X Ray too...

hey bev! i have used the fibrin glue, not sure if its the same as bio glue though. my surgeon tried it a couple times for fistulas in my butt, but yeah it didnt really work out for me. it has the best chance if your fistula is completely dry and clean and uninfected, and mine were always exact opposite of that. i couldnt get the infection to go away long enough to give the glue a chance.
but it is definitly worth a try yeah?
is your fistula in your tummy infected?
also ive had different kinds of drains and stuff put in and they helped a lot at keeping it open to let the infecty mess drain nicely, they hurt so much when its too closed off to drain!! *shudder*

my surg explained to me that the fibrin glue worked kinda like that window insulation glue, you know that stuff? how it squirts in to expand and fill the space? hahha hard to explain.

well good luck with it, i hope your surgeon thinks its a potential answer for ya!
