Yes, I took 6MP for seven years for ulcerative proctitis.  I had remission for two years and then started flaring yearly.  In the past eighteen months, I have suffered three flares, all lasting a long time and had to go on prednisone for the upteenth time.  Now prednisone dependent.  Starting Remicade tomorrow morning...doc took me off the 6MP two weeks ago.

Diagnosed with ulcerative proctitis in 1998 in hospital
Hospitalized (2nd time) in May 2008 for ten days.
Remission Nov 08 thru May of 09.
Flare May of 09 thru Aug of 09.  Meds: Colazal, 6MP, prednisone taper, probiotics, Benicar, calcium and multivitamin
Remission...too short...Sept and Oct.  Now in bad flare again...blood and mucus...back on prednisone, off the 6MP, waiting for approval from ins co to start Remicade.

I have only been on 6mp for 5 months and I refuse to go back on prednisone again. I had horrible side effects from it. I am scheduled to go back to the dr in january but wondering if I should wait?

Only you can be the judge of that.  If your symptoms worsen for fail to improve, I would definitely notify the doctor.

I have been on 6MP for over a decade at various doses. Your doctor can send your blood to Prometheus to check what your therapeutic level is, basically to see if your dosage is high enough to help you. Usually the dose is tailored to your weight but sometimes it needs to be adjusted and the only sure way to tell is by blood work. If I were you, I would see if your doctor could see you sooner and ask to have some blood work done. It is a simple step, but make sure your insurance will pay. It costs several hundred dollars, so beware.

Managing with strict low residue diet, keeping symptoms to a minimum. All test show small amount of ulceration, still have occasional blockages. But still have a great time with my 2 daughters and husband!

Prednisone, 6MP,Prevacid, B12 shots, Bentyl, Xifaxan.....
