I have brought this up before but really hit a wall trying to find answeres....
Here is my issue: LDN taken in small doses bind to the opioid receptor for a short time tricking the brain into thinking the body is not producing enough endorphins.....(Well thats pretty close I think.)
Because the dose is so small 3mg or so the drug only binds to the receptor sites for a few hours. (5 or so)
My Question: Why is it that if I take 3.0mg of naltrexone before bed at 9pm I STILL DO NOT FEEL THE EFFECT OF A NARCOTIC 24HOURS LATER.

Please I KNOW you should not take both meds at the same time, thats not the point here. I have Lupas that flares REALLY bad about every 6 weeks and this is when I try to skip a LDN dose at night and use a pain killer.
Whats the 1/2 life for naltrexone?
Why is it not clearing my system?
Am I getting any benifit from the drug if my receptors are blocked 24hrs a day?
Thanks for your time!~

Yes, I ecco that, or you could ask at http://www.groups.yahoo.com/LDNandIBD/
I know that a pharmacist is an active LDN user of that group, she has Crohns or U.C (don't quite remember)./Bee

I don't know how bad your Crohn's is, but we took my son off of his Imuran (which wasn't working) and used LDN solely, and it is probably the biggest regret of my life. Did not work one bit and once we weened below 6mg of Prednisolone the inflammation and blood came back fast and with a vengeance. He is 30 lbs and now on 60 mg a day of Imuran and it isn't working. Tomorrow we go in for an iron infusion and his first infusion of Remicade.

Sorry, I do not know the reason for the continued effect from LDN.

If you don't mind me asking, did you get all those bone issues through the use of corticosteroids? I have been trying to get an answer as to how long one has to be on steroids for the horrific bone loss to begin. My almost 3 year old son has been on prednisolone now for almost two years and has not grown an inch in that time. I am terrified that not only are his bones not growing, but that he could already have osteoporosis. The sounds of his shoulders popping and cracking is gruesome to hear.
Father to 2 year old son diagnosed with acute Crohn's.
Imuran (60mg's a day), 30mg Prednisolone, SCD diet, Mutaflor, Dr. Ohhira's Probiotics 12 plus, Homemade Goat Milk Kefir, Vit. D3, Vit. K2, Calcium Orotate, Epicor jr., Fucoidan, Hemp Milk, Tried LDN, did not help, Always flares when we dip below 5mg Pred. Just got over C. Diff

My back issues are degenerative. OI had problems prior to Crohns. However I need bilateral joint replacements for my hips. Definatly pred related....

memorytheater, please don't beat yourself up about trying the LDN. Given its low toxicity, it was worth a try. Since the Imuran never worked, either, I'm not sure why you should feel especially bad about trying LDN.

Here's hoping the Remicade does the trick.
