I know we've had discussions about the obvious effects of prednisone e.g. moonface, pregnant belly, etc., or maybe eyelashes have changed in length longer or shorter.

I was just wondering if anyone had experienced change in your hair itself? Mine had always been super straight, but it's now both straight and curly at the same time.

Has anyone else gone through odd changes like this? I assume it has to do with what's happened with my body as well as what I've been putting in it. I can't really account for why my hair would start curling underneath like this, and I can't complain because it's actually kind of neat. I'm just curious really.

Every time I go on prednisone the hair on my head gets crazy. Within about a week on the high dose my scalp gets really greasy which means by 2pm my hair is all oily and gross. I have to shampoo twice in the morning to keep it in check enough for me to get through the work day. Then as I taper the extra oil calms down and my hair is pretty normal for a bit. After I finish the taper my hair gets dried out and usually falls out. Last time I lost about 40% of my hair. It grew back but now I back on the prednisone so I am sure it will fall out again in a few weeks. The prednisone can work miracles but the side effects are nasty nasty nasty business.

I had quite a bit of hair loss as well...but I'm only on 5 mg and tapering off to 0 again soon.

The extra oil makes sense I think in terms of hormonal changes, but I'm used to hearing a lot about how prednisone causes acne in a lot of people...

What a fun drug!!

Yes, after I took 6mp for about 4-5 months, my hair which used to be really straight is really wavy now. I miss my straight hair, although my husband likes the waves, says it looks like sexy hair. Men!!! (Sorry guys:)

My fiance is into the waves and curls as well...Perhaps one upside though I know he loves it either way. I'm just wondering what else to expect in the years to come. I don't want any nasty surprises because I know I'll have had my fair share in the first place without funky physical changes.

That's the only change I have experienced over the years other than the usual Pred problems.

When I first got sick my hair went from brunette and quite thick and dead dead straight to a dark blonde and insanely fine/thin and wavy - but not cool wavy its like fluffy wavy! It also hardly grows at all, looking into taking Biotin or something as soon I'll have none left! lol!
