Gas and Mucus from Meat?

So I am wondering if anyone has an suggestions related to gas that occurs about 2-3 hours after I eat dinner and goes on all night and into the morning. I started having this problem in April and I noticed it was related to eating red meat. I would have really bad gas at night and in the morning I would have gas with mucus before even having a bowel movement (sometimes with a blood). The issue then progressed to all meat being problematic (red meat, pork, chicken). I underwent a bunch of tests and my gallbladder was diseased so that came out in July. I also had a B12 and Folic acid deficiency. The gallbladder surgery was really of no consequence. I felt no different and the gas issue persisted. I went on xiafaxin in September and that alleviated the issue for about 2 weeks. I then got a nice flare and have been on prednisone since the end of September. The prednisone alleviated most of the flare issues but not this gas and mucus issue. If I eat food like rice pasta and sauce I am fine but any meat turns me into a wreck. I pretty much eat vegetarian meals all day except for dinner so these issues are mainly in the evening and the early morning. Now I know this could be IBS but what is weird about it is that it just all of the sudden happened and progressed very quickly. I tried some pancreatic enzymes last night (thinking perhaps I need more protease) and it actually seemed to help a bit in terms of mucus but I still had a lot of gas. I have also tried probiotics with no results. If anyone has any suggestions it would be greatly appreciated. I have been gluten free for 5 years and my diet has since been primarily protein and veggies and low carb so I feel like I am running out of food to eat :(

Alas the cronnie food world seems to shrink for me too. There are few things that I can eat regularly and consistently. Stuff that I can eat when I'm in super flare mode (baby rice cereal with soy milk, jello) doesn't taste right when I'm feeling better...can't eat meats either...but meats do do better when I'm on higher doses of prednisone...all but pork...pork has never, ever liked's kinda weird the less processed and "fresher" the worse (pork chops worse than bbq which is worse than bacon/ham...)

Anyway...just saying...go with what works for you now...cuz it could and probably will change tomorrow...note what tastes good and works well and when it does. (the mucus and blood thing may be a sign that your body doesn't like whatever you ate...jmho).

Oh, you can get protein in other soy milk...mix it with stuff you can eat if you don't like the taste, or some mixes that you can add water or milk or soy(I like some of the Kashi "Go Lean" shakes)...and there are probably some other people with better ideas..

Maybe you should ask your doctor to see if you have a small intestine bacterial overgrowth (SIBO). I had that and everything I ate would cause me to bloat up and be really unfortable. Did a 10 day course of Cipro and the problem is gone. Doc didn't do any specific test, just went by my description and prescribed the Cipro. Just a thought!

I started taking Pred recently and since I was feeling better started eating a lot of red meat...which I normally don't do. I rarely eat meat at all actually. I've noticed though that I had a lot more flare-ish symptoms after binging on cheeseburgers and stuff. I've decided to go back to my semi-vegetarian ways to so I can get off of these crappy steroids. I don't really notice that my stomach hurts after eating poultry or soy products though. As much as I love cheeseburgers, the gut pain and proctitis isn't worth it :(

(I apologize because I know that this doesn't make a lot of sense...I am super tired :P)
