Tonight has been really tough, I've slept about 2 hours in total (it's 5 am) because I keep waking up completely nauseous. I'm pretty sure I have a blockage, or at least a partial one because of the amount of nausea I'm having, the amount of pain I'm in and the fact that gravol isn't really doing it's usual magic at all to help me feel less like throwing up everywhere :(
I am still having BMs, though they are quite unformed.
My question is, how do you know when it's time to go to the ER?
And what can they do in terms of relief once you are there?
I have a doctors appointment at the hospital on Wednesday anyways but if this keeps up I may have to call it an emergency and go sooner...
female 19, diagnosed crohns december 2008
currently taking 500 mg pentasa 4x daily
still feeling terrible, going back to dr.

I kinda think that if you are starting to question whether or not you should go to the ER, that you should go. I hope you do not have a blockage and that you feel better really soon. I know sometimes you think oh I shouldn't go because I don't want to be a nuisance but you are the best person to judge how you feel.

Best wishes

Sounds like you might at least have a partial obstruction. I would recommend going to the ER if you are not improving. Good luck and keep us posted.

If it doesn't get better then go to the ER. I've only ever been able to stay home once during those, but they're just too unbearable.

Keep us updated, please. I'm so sorry you're going through that...really, really uncomfortable!!

When I decided to go to the ER I was cramping terribly every 15-20 minutes and they last 2-3 minutes.  Pain was intense.  Also I had vomiting 2/hr for 4 hours.  I was admitted and stayed in hospital for 3 days.  Sounds to me like you may have an obstruction too.  I guess I was lucky because I didn't have symptoms until my early 50's and surgery in my mid 50's.

Best of luck to you.....keep us informed as to how you're doing.

It sounds like you may need to go soon. Why put up with the pain and nausea when the doctors can give you something for it.

Just checking in to see how you are feeling? Any better or did you have to hit the ER. Let us know when you can.

hey everyone, thanks for your kind words.. I just got back from the hospital, I've been put on prednisone so hopefully that will clear things up a bit. I'm not feeling very cheery at the moment because of all the side effects I was warned about! But hopefully things will start looking up. I have a follow up consult in two weeks when my Dr. will decide whether I will be put on remicade or imuran so for now I'm just lying down at home looking into these options.
Thanks again everyone!
