Hi, Just curious as to why you just started taking Flagyl? Since you have a scope coming up soon I sometimes wonder how they know what is working? Or maybe The Asacol isn't enough at the moment?

Hi Bammer how have you been?
A couple of weeks ago I had really bad pain in my right side, the pain would come and last about 10-30 seconds and go away and would come back in a minute or two and repeat itself for about 15-20 minutes. It was the worse pain that I've had with this disease. after 15-20 minutes the pain was gone. I went to see my GI and he thought that the intestines were flip flopping around and got tangled up with some adhesions which caused the pain and then flip flopped back. He prescribed the
Flaygl because I have been really gassy latley. I think it is because of grains and the Questran, my doc thinks it may be bacteria overgrowth or possibly lactose intolerant. Thus the Flagyl for one week. I'm not sure if it has worked, it may have helped a little cause I still get a little gassy. I had to ask for the Colonoscopy for two reasons. First I want to know whats going on inside me to see if the Asacol is working or if this DD has come back. Secondly, I want to have the Colonoscopy done before the end of the year as my insurance deductible has been met and there is no patient expence. Just want to know if the Asacol is doing the job or if I need to find another med. Other then all of that I have been feeling really good other then the freaky pain episodes now and then.So far my miracle drug is the questran.
How bout you, how you been feeling? Same meds?

I figured you were having the colonoscopy to see how things were now. My GI is doing a follow up scope in about a year's time as well. I am not familiar with Questran other than I just looked it up and mainly used to lower cholesterol. Does it have other uses?

I am doing really well and foods do not bother me enough to really figure out what might give me gas at times. I know red meat and my son-in-law has given us wild meat which is a problem as far as gas goes. Even tried a little popcorn last week (after curling when everyone else was eating it) but have been away from it for so long that I can go without.  If I watch my diet somewhat I have very few problems at all.

Stress level is pretty high as my father was just diagnosed with bone cancer, in hospital probably long term. He is usually pretty sharp but the pain meds are affecting that. What makes it so much harder is my brother and my father's wife (of four years) do not get along at all. My sister and I have been caught is the middle and I wish they would just let it go for Dad's sake. I lose a lot of sleep but my sleep habits leave a lot to be desired at the best of times.

Yes, still MTX once a week, blood test once every two months now.

I know you are still lurking and no news is usually good news. Hope you have the pain figured out and all goes well with your colonoscopy. Know you will keep us posted.

Just noticed you have a Chocolate lab called Hunter. My daughter and son-in-law do as well and they are expecting their first child. So that is the good news other than she has felt like crap the whole time so far.

Questran is used to bind the bile salts. I have no Ileocecal valve so the bile backs up into my small intestines which can create "D" Since I have been on it I have been having normal BM. I too notice a problem now and then with red meats or wild meats, I usually try to eat chicken, turkey and fish as a meat source. Your right if I stay on cource with my diet, I don't have any problems. The one thing my doc said was NO!! popcorn at all, even corn on the cob and canned corn. That is the hardest thing that I had to give up so far. How can you go to the movies and not have popcorn!!
I'm really sorry to hear about your father, I wish himm all the best and I hope they at least make him comfortable. My father passed away 2 years ago and we had almost the same problems with family. My sister hadn't talked to my parents for about 7 years because of some petty little thing, she even wrote her own daughter off for about that time. When my father was in the hospital and we were told that he was terminal i called my sister who never came to see him and I told her she needed to put this crap aside and get her butt to the hospital. Surprisenly she did! My dads dyding words were he wanted the family back together. I'm proud to say that his wishes have been met. The family is now back together. It is a shame that the passing away of a parent or sibling pulled the family back together when it could have been done 7 years prior. Give a try and see if it works, it can't hurt at this point. Your health is important too.
I wish you and your family well and I hope this brings them together.
I will keep you in my thoughts and prayers.
Take care
