My stomach is in shreds - I am on Remicaide and for the past few weeks I have been running to the bathroom, sometimes as often as a few times an hour, and have urgency/gas/blood/mucus but not really any stool.  I was tested for c.diff and that came back negative but I was on antibiotics for 10 days last month.  Maybe the antibiotics caused this?  My next Remicaide is still not for a few weeks and my doctor mentioned prednisone (which I swore I would never take again unless absolutely necessary).

So in the meantime I want to try a diet to rest my stomach, etc but don't know the best one - if you are on a liquid diet are you drinking the protein shakes like ensure?  Any suggestions would be appreciated - I need to at least try to control this with my diet before my dr puts me on something else or I end up back in the hospital.

Thank you!!!

I would think things like Pedialyte, Boost or Ensure would be good because they have the nutrients your body needs. When I was in the hospital the last time the dietician made me these protein shakes that were made of Vanilla Instant Breakfast and Ice cream. But if you have alot of D or lactose intolerant, not so sure that would really work for you, but they did help to keep my weight up. Just a thought.

Thanks! My weight is ok now so I more concerned about resting my stomach and intestines so would rather stay away from dairy. I am thinking of starting an ALL liquid diet for a few days but would like to know what people drink when they do these.

Then I would think the Boost or Ensure would be where you would start. Not sure where your at but Modulen is another thought. Not sure if we can get it here in the US or not. Good luck!

Ensure and Boost are the easiest ones to get over the counter in a pharmacy and they contain a full range of nutrients you need if you are doing an all-liquid diet. There are also other products out there, some people respond to one and others to another, so you may want to experiment. Some other products available in the US that you can usually order online from the manufacturer are Optimental, Vivonex, Peptamen, Vital.
