I suppose they may not be hemorrhoids; the GI who did my last colonoscopy said it was just massive irritation from the prep. But they've persisted for over a year now, and this evening, I was having quite a bit of difficulty passing stools. But I succeeded (hurray!), only to get this really weird numb feeling afterwards. Kind of like when the local anasthetic is just starting to wear off after a trip to the dentist -- there's pain, but it's still kind of numb. Not just on my rear, but everywhere in the local vicinity.

So I did some looking, and everything's pretty swollen down there. All the female parts as well. It still hurts in that numb kind of way, and just feels weird overall. I've also had a considerable amount of mucus and gas since then.

Has this happened to anyone else? What is this? Any thoughts?

Not sure, but it sounds like something I had about 6 years ago. It went away, but was quite uncomfortable and painful while I had it (2 weeks?) Does your GI think you could treat it with steroids or an anti-inflammatory? Or are you just supposed to live with it? Sounds like it could be a mass of internal hemmi's or a really large one. The numbness part is weird though. I would push for some help from the GI. There's got to be something that might give you a little relief! Keep us posted!

I called an advice nurse, and she told me to get my numb butt to the ER. I thought that was overkill, though, and went to urgent care instead. Less wait, less money, less of a deal.

Dude was stumped. Said it was probably a pinched nerve or that I broke a blood vessel that irritated a nerve.
Saw a GI NP today, and she was equally stumped. I guess this sort of thing doesn't happen very often!
