Oh the dreaded department holiday lunch.  It's today and I'm really not up to this.  I guess I'll just try and order some plain grilled chicken and mashed potatoes, that shouldn't cause too much misery.  The thing that really ticks me off is they know I am going for surgery soon and I STILL have to go to this luncheon.  GRRRR. 
 
I honestly thought of sitting down, looking through the menu and saying I don't see anything I can eat.  Then excuse myself and leave.  Not sure how that would go over with my manager.

Do you have to go? Where do you work? I am sure if you said ahead of time that you can't eat anything it would go over better than just leaving the table. I hate situations like that at work; so awkward! Good luck!
