So I'm watching back episodes of House and they're treating a gypsy kid (season 3) and House says "Give him FD 28--it's been effective in treating Crohn's and RA." They said in the show it was an experimental drug. I searched for FD 28 and FT 28 but didn't find anything legit. Did they just make this up??

I did a quick search and it is FT-28. I think it is a made up name.

I have nothing to really add to this, other then I wonder if what they talk about is actually legit or if it's made up most of the time. I've often wanted to ask my GI and surgeon if they watch shows like that, and if it is anything like what they do.

I think on House they really stretch reality to its limits many times. I think in season 2 there was a Crohn's case and it was unlike anything I've ever heard. I wouldn't be surprised if cases on House have never occurred, or have like a 1 in a billion chance of happening. But I had the impression cases on House were "possible" and grounded in reality. If they're just making stuff up like drugs, then that's lame.

There was another episode where a little girl oozed black stuff out of her mouth and House said it was "reverse peristalsis" and said she was pooping out of her mouth! I searched a lot and could not find mention of this actually happening, and that reverse peristalsis referred to vomiting.

My nurse watches House and said it imparts enough knowledge to be dangerous. :P

I don't know guys....during commercials when the show is on they give little tid-bits about the show/actors and such and one time they did mention that the show actually uses 2 docs and a specialist as part of the writing team on the show to make the show more real, so the medical stuff they say (DX, RX and so on) are suppose to be legit.

Hmm, well what about searching patients' houses? As far as I know, my gastro hasn't done that! Or maybe they were just super careful. :P I guess they didn't find anything that caused my CD so they kept mum about it.
