This is redwood again.  Drove all the way to my appointment and the Doc was sick! My large intestine is gone and still in lots of pain, 15 to 20 times to the bathroom.  does the pain go away if I get a C -bag?  Sick and tired of hurting and staying at home.

I don't know if it will, it's very likely but I cannot say for sure...this would be an excellent question to ask at the Ostomies forum here at the site though.

Redwood,
Unfortunately, this is an extrodinately individual disease. I am not even sure if a doctor could answer that question. I suggest you might want to research the reoccurance of crohn's disease after having c-bag. Including asking the ostomies forum, but more importantly talking to GI's and etc. As always I encourage people to get 2,3,4 options.
Good Luck,

Redwood,
This may seem like a stupid question, but there are a considerable amount of us on nacotic pain meds. So my question is are you on any pain meds? If not, why not? One thing is that not only do they help with pain, but they slow down the GI tract so more solid BMs.
Take care,

redwood~like mentioned, it is VERY individualized. I have had an ileostomy for 10+ years. During most of those years I kept my colon and rectum and still experienced all of my Crohn's symptoms (mine was fistulizing) and it wasn't until I had a proctocolectomy that I feel like all the symptoms have gone away...knock on wood...

My C/R surgeon's opinion was that since I hadn't had any small bowel involvement for that time (just colon/rectum) that I should be okay...they say that 10 years is a bench mark...but with Crohn's anything is possible:(

I am not familiar with your background, but I wanted to give you my experience. Definitely get many opinions and be sure of any decision that will be permanent.

Check out the Ostomies orum...there are many ostomates with Crohn's that can give assistance!
