Dan O'Bannon, who worked on the story and screenplay for Alien, died Dec. 17, 2009, after a 30 year battle with Crohn's. This is sad, but notice that Alien was made 30 years ago! It's obvious that Crohn's disease was the inspiration for a creature that causes excruciating abdominal pain before erupting from it. :)

Oh yeh you can totally see the inspiration there! Sad news, what was the cause of death from the Crohn's?

I also found this link, theres a ton more info

His wife says he was in the process of making a film called "The Pain Clinic", about his own experiences with hospitals and dealing with pain. =] Hopefully someone continues to make that movie.

When I'm having one of those days when my abdomen is rolling and groaning and bubbling, it definitely feels as if there's an alien in there! It's funny and oddly comforting to think that this may have been O'Bannon's inspiration.

Gden, great deduction on that one. Aliens is one of my favorite all time movies and now I know why!

Hahaha...I can certainly see the inspiration there. I'm only sorry he ever had to go through that.

And those little Alien buggers come out covered in blood and mucus with lots of pain. Now what does that remind me of????????

How is it no one ever realized the similarity between CD and Alien.  Makes you see the movie in a whole new light.

Now if it was anything like the Alien spoof in Spaceballs...I wish my colon would sing and dance.

I have often felt like there was a little P O ed creature with claws trying to get out of my insides , but when it erupts, it doesn't come out of my chest.
If we would read the secret history of our enemies,we would find in each mans life sorrow and suffering enough to disarm all hostility.
